To leave the club immediately suggests the racist was somebody high up there, otherwise the usual process would be to lodge a complaint, investigate, ban the bigot...?

Golf has always been a part of our family from great-grandparents, great-aunts and uncles. There's nothing about golf that is racist or classist from where I come from in Scotland.

But my God, golf clubs themselves don't half attract some awful people and make them feel as if they're free to come out with stuff like that. And in my experience the South East golf clubs are by far the worst.

The fact they refused to comment says a lot. Not hard to say we oppose racism and the person has received a lifetime ban.

My sister and her husband run the catering at a club in Derbyshire and she says the members are a breed of their own.

Plenty show up in flash cars and parade all the gear etc, then quibble about a few pence on a sandwich.

Well it looks like a duck, it sounds like a duck. Nope, dunno what it is.

Certainly pretty outrageous that it's KD who feels he has to leave & not the perpetrators who get the boot. There were several witnesses after all.

Apart from anything else, you'd have thought the Club themselves would have realised that not reassuring KD they'd take swift & strong action, then actually following up on that, is going to give their reputation a pretty bad name, with lots of bad publicity & a consequent hit to their finances.

Maybe other members could stage a protest/boycott?

Simon Hoggart used to have a regular go at golf clubs and their members in his column in The Guardian.

He observed that the guy who was Head Boy at school, ends up as a golf club captain, not a captain of industry.

They were more likely to have protested at his becoming a member in the first place.

You might well be right. The whole thing stinks. Which reminds me of the old revenge tactic of a fresh prawn or 3 stuffed into the ends of curtain poles or other concealed places.

Any TWTDers with access to the members' lounge there ..?

my money is on that fact the person guilty of the abuse is a key figure down there and brings in too much money via golf days and bar spending and events.

I suppose so. Just seems outrageous they can get away with it. I hope their reputation really suffers as a consequence & they're hit in the long term. Have the local press made it a big headline?
