I want to think this was innocent and people are getting carried away. I'm sure a vast majority wouldn't have thought anything like that.
Problem is that advertising is an industry where imagery even subliminal is vital. It's core to the business and what disturbs me is that these details should and probably would have been thought about. And possibly ignored in order to create the social media storm.
At the very least having a child illustrate the car's "kill zone" seems remarkably crass.

It is a parked car to be fair, on someones drive.
Audi should respond 'we apologise if we caused offence to any perverts'.

Of course. But it's not as if kids aren't run over and killed in driveways.
I agree it's a stretch but once you see it you can't unsee it. When we know there are hundreds of children killed per year and many thousands worldwide it all seems very unnecessary from a car manufacturer.

Its not that uncommon for a child to be shown near a parked car on a driveway;

That's my take from the photo too.
Think we are seeking out offence.
Don't get me wrong. I would only notice where the child is because these are the things I notice from doing similar campaigns for a car manufacturer. Cautious safety is key so I don't understand why this was seen as a good idea.
I'm sure road safety campaigners and people who have lost family members might also see it and react.
It's no biggie but it's certainly clumsy. And it annoys me that this wasn't thought about - or indeed the possibility that it was thought about but they wanted the controversy.

Fair do's.
No worries.
Talking about so-called communication specialists and trusted brands taking the p!ss, I should add that the BBC have pushed this as barely disguised clickbait too.
Seems the real issue for it being pulled is pedestrian/child safety and the weird banana angle has been tacked on fairly gratuitously.
It's their most read article as a result ...

Agreed.
Also sad how many so called respected media outlets now make 'stories' from Twitter quotes.
But there's something that seems to me just not right about that one in particular. The smallness of the child esp in comparison with the large size of the car right behind her, the fact that adult female models are the humans that are usually draped across new cars in the assumption that that will somehow attract buyers, and that this small child is there instead, eating a banana - I mean why on earth would you have her unzipping a banana in that pose? Just subliminally totally wrong for me.
