Cricket: Can't see England getting past 200 at the moment 14:10 - Aug 7 with 12137 viewsSteve_M

Poor Test from England, very good one from Pakistan so far.

With Stokes as a batsman him and Root are one place too far up and the order but the bowling yesterday gave Pakistan far too many easy runs.

Another defeat in the first Test of a series unless something unexpected happens. Broad's done his big score for the Summer but be nice to see another one and get to around 250.

Stunning match.

Test cricket is amazing.

Unlucky Pakistan. Really good team and there was nothing in it. They're better than England truth be told. But that's sport innit.

Can't say enough how good it is Pakistan and the Windies kept to the tour.

Don't see how they are better than us. In a few years maybe, they have quite a young squad, but at the moment, I wouldn't change our side for any other.

Both. Alec Stewart wasn't the best keeper in the world, but could bat for hours. We need a mix throughout the X1 and at the moment we have it. Broad, Anderson, Woakes, Archer are as good as any bowling attack. We have a batting line up most countries would love to have. We will lose the odd test, of course we will, but they have the right mix for a sustained period of success. We are not a one or two man side, which we have been in the past. No real reliance on one bowler or one batsman.

Serious question... when was the last time Joss batted for hours?

I don't think he as enough technique as a batsman to cover for his average keeping. If the top order put tons on he's perfect to come in and take turn the screw BUT our top order are fragile atm. Hats off to Joss today but it feels like an exception....

I would fancy us against anyone. I just think we have strength in depth. There are 3 or 4 that will feel unlucky not to be in the side. That can only be a good thing. 4 or 5 real bowlers and batting down to 9th, which is vital in test cricket. Love watching us.

He was under real pressure today and felt he owed the team. He delivered. That speaks volumes about the bloke. I just meant Stewart was in for his batting and keeping, same as Buttler.

Never doubted his character and psych innit. And hats off played a blinder with the bat in this test.

I just feel that we are not reliant on the same people. Stokes is a bit off at the moment, but can still turn it on at any point. Even if he doesn't, some else will. I didn't see that coming from Woakes today, but that is the beauty of this side, I wouldn't write any of them off.

If Woakes played for Surrey he'd have a hundred caps ;)

Another great Test match, glad I left a small caveat on my miserable opening post yesterday.

Pretty decent all round, openers got through the new this inning and Butler and Woakes were excellent. Think it took until that no ball with 13 needed for me to think we were past blowing it.

And, best of all, the next Test starts Friday.

What most English Test fans would agree on is that it would have still been a fantastic match if Pakistan had somehow sikittled the last four out for no runs.

Fooking love Test cricket :)

I know you shouldn't compare the two sports but the COVID outbreak has brought out the worst in football. It's plain to see the whole 'football family' concept is a load of old b*llocks and it's every club for itself. The farce that is the EFL and clubs at the top queuing up to spunk hundreds of millions of pounds on players again.
Then you look at West Indies coming over here on half pay and living in a bubble for a couple of months. Pakistan came in at the end of June so have had a good month or so in the bubble already. The fact those two teams were willing to go through all of that to keep Test Cricket going is a hell of a thing to do. It's been bloody exciting cricket too.

Yep, in broad agreement with all of this.

Delighted with the result today; not really sure how we managed to turn it round. I've big doubts about Buttler in the Test arena, but he made me look a little foolish today. Fair play to Pakistan for an enormous effort too.

Football can get fcked, really.

Play-offs season 2015 when we lost to narwich, World Cup 2018 England. That's it for football golden moments in the last decade. Not a single win over the inbreds in that time and not much chance of being even in the same ***king division of them.

I can't see how Foakes hasn't had at least one of these tests behind the stumps regardless how well Buttler has done. I don't understand either how the fast bowlers have rotated over the two series but Bess has been the only spinner, it's India next so we will probably need to take 3 spinners.

I never liked Stewart as keeper. Not because he let England down with the gloves but because putting him behind the stumps sent an instant message to the opposition that our top order wasn’t good enough to have a specialist keeper. We’d have been more successful in that era with Russell keeping and Stewart in for his batting IMHO.
Brilliant victory today and hat off to Buttler for his grit and determination in bouncing back.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

i think Bess is a really unusual pick, not really sure what he's doing in that team.

Doesnt pose any kind of threat at all, not particularly economic, and doesnt score loads of runs.

Altho its noted that we don't have a plethora of spinners lining up to displace him atm.

Bring back Monty.

Spinner wise, it looked like Parkinson was going to play in Sri Lanka before that tour got abandoned wouldn’t be surprised if they went with him again in India, also I think they might go for Vardi of Surrey he’s probably the most attacking off spinner in the country and does give it a proper rip!

Interesting that they called up Robinson to t try he squad while he was playing as well.
