Ridiculous amount of players. 25 first team players should be enough. We can always bring youngsters in if needed. Get rid of the dead wood to make room and money available for new starting X1 players only.

..... and people wonder why Evans isn’t willing to sign anyone else !!!
Every player has to be paid every month - out of Evans pocket , not ours , his . Do this is just part of Evans investment into the Club , but many don’t seem to accept this as an outlay.

How many of these younger players are actually good enough to be in the first team ?

“How many of these younger players are actually good enough to be in the first team ?”

As I said on another thread only 4 of the under 21s are really worthy of a first team squad place and 3 of those have yet to play since significant/long term injuries.

You have listed all but three of their birth dates. Of the others, none were born in August.

There’s this thing called the U-23 squad which I’m pretty sure we participate in. I very much doubt if those players play for free - hence why they are also full-time professionals.

I could be wrong but I do think that reserve teams etc have been around for a long time.

Yes the list looks big, but it’s a little falsified with the amount of youngsters on there, who really are still development players.

So the top 17 players contracts count as £1300 per week to the £2.5m wage budget, I make that £1.15m, leaving £1.35m or £26000 a week. Doesn’t seem as restrictive as first thought, certainly for this season at least.

The problem you’ll have being in this league long term is renewing of contracts, because we realistically don’t have the capabilities to offer similar figures to want the older pros are on now, hence why Ipswich triggered Holy and Nolan contracts early prior to the vote.

For me it is more important to get out the division this season than it was last.

Beyond this season is where the problems will mount, U21s whose wages will count (albeit another £1300 a week) plus those whose contracts expire at the end of the season so will count to the wage cap. Need to go up this season desperately (again).

far too much average squad filler.

All you need is a squad of 16-18 players and then a few youngsters.

Look back at our recent history over last 30 years, all our best periods come when we have a small, close knit, settled side where the sum is greater than the individual parts.

We should not sign anyone, use the youth and clear out the dross - Nolan, NSIALA, JD etc etc

So at the end of this season everyone born in 1999 will be over age and have to fit into a 21 man squad. There’s going to be hell of a turnover of players if we don’t go up.

From the qualified Over-21s we keep...

Holy, Wright
Chambers, Cotter, Kenlock, Vincent-Young, Wilson, Woolfenden
Bishop, Edwards, Huws, Skuse
Jackson, Norwood, Sears

If I’ve done the maths right and understand the regulations correctly both Downes and Dozzell will count as Under-21s for next season.

That means moving on Donacien, Drinan, Folami, Judge, Morris, Nolan and Nsiala. I am honestly split about whether Nolan could be more worthwhile hanging onto than Bishop and/or Dozzell.

The likes of Dobra, El-Mizouni will bulk up the squad to an extent but we will need extra bodies. With limited funds available concentrate on a left back, left winger and a centre back. Keep Wilson as a last resort as we won’t be able to bring in anyone better to do that role. We do need a centre forward but can we afford one without leaving another area of our squad lacking depth?

Poll: Who would you play at right centre back on Saturday?
