So - If - as reported France ends up on the list of quarantine countries and off the FCO list of places to go to....what are the implications for travel?

Can you still travel - but at your own risk?
Presume UK travel insurances wouldn't cover any claims?
Would the EU health card thing (for emergency treatment) still cover you?
Would car/motorbike insurance be valid?
14 days q. on arrival back home if fairly self explanatory.

Have a trip booked where we are transiting France only*...so not worried about the CV risk itself as are flexible and can easily avoid areas with high outbreaks.

(*If we headed to Belgium - it could literally be for 30 minutes... - if Belgium were not also on the list too)

**I fully accept 99% if people wouldn't consider this. Which is fine - good luck to you. Don't need a lecture, just wanting to understand the implications so we can make an informed decision on what is the best thing to do.

This record number of infections was just over 200, in the whole country. They’ve had less than 6,000 infections in total, far from a second wave, I don’t think you can even say they had a first wave ...

It's not my terminology, it's that of the Greek government.

Perhaps take it up with them.

Scaled for population is 50% more cases than the UK and they seemingly have tested less in general.

It isn't, but you literally said:

My point is you argue for no tourism but you take no account of the economic effects of this.

For the UK, the effect would likely be positive as people spent their money on holidays and 'staycations' in the UK. I just assumed as a Brexiteer (yes it's a relevant point) you would be talking about the UK and not the European/world economy.

You assumed incorrectly

I get that, guess the only thing one can do is minimise the risk. Mask and hand sanitizer in the airport etc. The alternative is no international travel until a cure or vaccine. That would result in untold job losses and huge amounts of poverty for tourist dependent countries ... at some point the small risk becomes favourable to the alternative ...

Doesn't even have to be you on the plane, could be someone else who doesn't take the precautions.

Yeah, because it’s just the young people acting like ignorant, irresponsible and selfish bellends that fail to grasp basic risk assessment or infection control procedures...

I find it so difficult to have sympathy with these stories.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53777482

"Scott says. "Why 14-day quarantine when parts of the UK are probably more badly affected? I am very frustrated."
- Not as frustrated as I am Scott, how do people not realise that any unpredictable movement outside of your regular social circle or movements effects your risk profile and as such must be combated against with quarantine measures.

""Why did they not give this call at the beginning of the week so we could have travelled back? Why were they still advising it was OK to travel to France?"
- Why are you hanging your hat on a government that have proven themselves dishonest and deliberately obtuse, Katie?

"Karl Simpson went to his second home in the French hamlet of Vion knowing "full well" he might have to quarantine on his return home to Southampton on 20 August.

But now that it's been confirmed, he is worried about arranging care for his 90-year-old mother, who has dementia.

"There is no time now to rearrange care provision if I am absent," he says. "Will the government help? Will I be breaking quarantine rules if I visit Mum, or do the [previous lockdown exemptions for carers] still apply? I've arranged care for the time I'm away but sustaining that care beyond the 20th will be difficult."

Karl, a 68-year-old scientist who has advised the government on vaccines and pandemic planning, is hoping the same exemptions for carers will be in place as when the UK was in full lockdown in March - but "there's no clear guidance on that yet"."

- Why on earth would there be an exemption to quarantine for people looking after vulnerable people Karl?!
That's exactly who these measures are trying to protect, you literally admit to going despite "knowing full well" you might be putting yourself and your Mother in this position, FFS. SMFH.

Anyone who went knew it was a possibility but very few take responsibility for anything anymore. It's always someone else's fault.

Judging purely on people I know, there seems to be a strong correlation between the people going abroad and the people who think they are a special case and rules don't apply to them. Are they going to take any notice of quarantine? I know one person who has gone who thinks he's something really special and that the entire world revolves around him. I guarantee you he won't bother with it because rules aren't for people like him.

Karl was so concerned about his mum he went to France, despite understanding the risks.

Another day, another story that boils p1ss for ignorance levels...

These tales of people “rushing back” to the UK first from Spain and now France in a hope of slipping in before the quarantine rules pass, where are people’s f*cking conscience?!
It’s your moral duty to protect those weaker than yourself by taking the appropriate infection control measures, getting out of it on a technicality is optimum selfish and snide.

I can’t have sympathy for the people making comments about “not being able to afford the time off work” - where was that consideration when you booked your jolly jaunt abroad in the middle of a pandemic?! SMFH on repeat.

I keep seeing news stories like 'These people were in France - then they had to rush home'. What the hell? They knew it was a possibility. They're not victims. They gambled and went all in on red. It landed on black. You can't start crying and saying they didn't know the risks.

Sky also irritated me with a 'where you can go without risk of quarantine' story. It could quite easily change in a short space of time. Time to ban all international travel until 2021*

*Sports teams not included IF they can meet strict demands and afford the testing etc.

Just got back from Rhodes. It was fine. Bars and restaurants are pretty similar to here, table service only. Everywhere strictly shuts at midnight. The plane and airport were fine, masks all the time and minimise contact wherever possible. I really feel now that killing the travel industry in the way the government are doing is a bit over the top. The amount of jobs that will go in the UK from airlines and airports and then all those abroad that rely on British tourism. Seems a bit much to me, we’ve been able to travel again for a while now and doesn’t seem to have affected the situation here much. I know we’re going up slightly case wise but we are doing more tests and the best measure, numbers in hospital is still going down. Anyway, rambling a little bit ... good news is I don’t have to quarantine ... hope others get their trips in OK!

Back from France so in quarantine next 14 days. Not convinced quarantine will work properly. Procedure was sign up online to avoid delays when we got back to UK. Either print off the completed form and hand it over when asked or just show email acknowledgment On your phone.

Nobody asked for either. I know they have my details but those who didn’t know what they had to do, or didn’t bother, I guess they can skip quarantine and get away with it.

Your transport ‘carrier’, will have ensured all passengers have completed it. Not the job of the border force on return to interrogate,

Cuckoo land. P&O never asked if we had registered. There was a sign at Dover, beyond customs, saying check point ahead but didn’t see any checkpoint.

Little prospect of keeping track of drivers of non UK Registered vehicles.

Email acknowledgement of registration came from Visa- immigration service, UK gov, probably, I suspect, AKA Serco or Capita.

Included this statement

Your Public Health Passenger Locator Form is attached to this email. You can print it out or save it on your mobile device. You will be asked to show it when you arrive in the UK.

Doesn’t appear to put responsibility on the carrier.
