Tips for staying cool at night 11:29 - Aug 9 with 4757 views | ThisIsMyUsername | Anyone got any? My bedroom traps the heat and last night it was sweltering in there. I resigned myself to just laying on my bed drenched with sweat. Unfortunately my fan is currently broken so the sweat couldn't even evaporate with any cool breeze. Absolute joke - can anyone help? Edit - I'll add that my window was wide open, but I'm pretty sure warm air just comes in when it's this hot. [Post edited 9 Aug 2020 11:32]

Tips for staying cool at night on 11:38 - Aug 9 with 4213 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Most important to have the windows wide open early in the day when it is cool. Draw blinds/curtains when the Sun is on the room. Could try freezing a bottle of water (make sure not tightly closed and too full as water expands when it freezes and could burst the bottle). Then have the bottle in the room (ideally in front of the fan if you get one working) at night (or if you can make sure it can't leak you could leave it in the bed for the evening before going to bed). EDIT: Also if you are comfortable with it, sleeping on the floor. There is often quite a surprising difference in temperature the higher up in the room you are. [Post edited 9 Aug 2020 11:39]

Tips for staying cool at night on 11:39 - Aug 9 with 4199 views | BarcaBlue | In Spain we close all our windows, curtains, shutters, blinds during the day and then open everything up when the sun goes down til about 9 in the morning
Tips for staying cool at night on 11:45 - Aug 9 with 4176 views | eireblue | I heard the suggestion yesterday to put some socks in the freezer. It is also useful to remember to take them out and wear them before going to bed. So,...... at the moment, I am not sure how beneficial that suggestion is.

Not aware of that one but sounds potentially harmful to wear them straight out of the freezer.

Tips for staying cool at night on 11:56 - Aug 9 with 4118 views | ThisIsMyUsername | Thanks for the suggestions! I'll try the frozen bottle thing tonight - sounds like a good idea, as well as keeping the windows closed for the rest of the day (never considered that).

Tips for staying cool at night on 13:31 - Aug 9 with 3991 views | linhdi | I went to B&Q on Thursday and bought an aircon unit for £195. Vents out through the window via an elephant's trunk. You need to seal the window (temporary fix using bin bags and sellotape, kits are available!). It is flippin' brilliant. Takes about an hour to cool the bedroom down ( biggish room and in full sun from 3pm). I then run it on low through the night. Some reviews say it is too noisy, but I'm fine with it. Absolutely brilliant buy. [Post edited 9 Aug 2020 13:32]

Banish soft furnishings, pile carpets and thick curtains until autumn Get naked Get a spray bottle filled with cold water. Try sleeping outside on roof, verandah or garden If all else fails count the days until sept 1st when season may change.

Sounds like a guaranteed cold injury! Funny though. I'd look for a different room to sleep in. Some mattresses are terrible in the heat as they don't allow air flow.
| Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Tips for staying cool at night on 17:21 - Aug 9 with 3678 views | Chrisd | A couple of suggestions here, leave your bedroom attire in the freezer for a couple of minutes before putting on or placing a bowl of ice cubes in front of a fan, blows a nice cool breeze for a while at least.

Unless that happens for 10 minutes between midnight and 1am and then again between 3 and 4am tomorrow morning, that is no use to anyone. Although it will be dark to be fair.
