Really doesn't sound good. A very remote area so hard to get to quickly and there's a lot of smoke at the scene. I hope it's not as bad as it first looks.

Strangely enough my cousin lives in Stonehaven, apparently massive rainfall, let to the incident .

Far too early to speculate, but with all that rain sounds like either a section of track was washed out or a landslide blocking the track, or something similar.

Fingers crossed it's not too bad, but doesn't sound good.

Early indications are a landslide apparently. Really hope it's not as bad as it sounds.

Looks very nasty. Heard them say it is the first rail crash with fatalities in the UK since 2007.

I've been whatsapp'd a photo of the crash site and it looks terrible, expect there to be a fairly significant loss of life.

If you go on the Network Rail twitter for that area too, it shows flooded tracks near Stonehaven filmed this morning so begs the question how the train still went through the area.

Will be an extremely challenging recovery process and fingers crossed the death toll and life-changing injuries are as bad as suspected.

Yep. It looks like an intercity with a major derailment and a lot of fire. Sounds awful.

Thoughts and prayers.

Yeah, looks really bad. I don't know how accurate the info is but one of the replies says 12 people on the train. Still absolutely awful but imagine if it had been packed with a couple of hundred people, especially with the challenges presented by the location in terms of accessing the crash site and getting people out.

Yep, the ones that follow are fake apparently.

Reverse image search seems to prove the fakeness too
