Frankly in the current economic climate and with regard to the salary cap I’d be quite surprised if we part with money for anyone.

This is a positive thing. It will take all those squads that have been tinkered with time to gell. We will benefit from the consistency and squad familiarity.

Not on his wages .

Hope not , no better than Holy and don't want more of the rotation from last season

Backup to Holy? Not sure I can handle the excitement...

Joking aside it’s pretty obvious we need to get rid of some bodies before we will be getting anyone of note in - and that would probably have been the case without the wage cap too

...also, on Saturday it’ll be 4, maybe 3, weeks until the start of the season!

We’ll sign players late on and we’ll get the ‘haven’t had time to gel’ crap.

Haha I can see the excuses already

“Our players haven’t had time to gel”

“Judge isn’t at full fitness due to the Coronavirus lay-off”

“This loan we’ve signed will definitely sign for us permanently”

“Lambert wasn’t backed, therefore it’s not his fault he’s failed for the third season in a row. We should give him another year”

Can't be bothered to respond to you all individually but the way I look at it is this:

If Lambert hasn't learnt his lessons from last season then it doesn't matter who we sign. We won't go up.

If Lambert has learnt his lessons then we really don't need that much. A back up keeper, a LB and a striker.

Oh and Sitters, you're having a little blub about signings but on a recent thread about Garbutt not joining you said you 'couldn't wait' to see the reaction.

.....I agree.

That's basically the whole point of the thread.

We haven't signed any of them and the season starts in less than a month.

Lambert out.

GK in by the weekend according to Joe who we know has contacts.

The LB we will sign is probably the one training with us now.

It's hardly desperation stakes yet.

Once we have got rid of Jacko, Skuse, Chambo, Donacien, Nsiala, Kenlock, Edwards and Wilson, THEN we can think about getting some in.

Donacien and Nsiala will have to be paid off.

It really isn't. Look at our squad. Can you really tell me it's average for this level? Lambert was responsible for last season with stupid decisions. He is the key. If he learns his lessons then we'll be fine.

Chances are that he won't learn anything and we'll need a new manager mid season but he's the key. If he makes the same mistakes then no amount of signings will change anything.

This is true.

Also, i imagine the long game will be to see who is left without a club when the window closes and will have to accept a L1 wage with big promotion incentives.

Unless it's a loan.

In theory we could pay a loan fee and no wages, then loan Wright out and have a club pay some of his wages and end up with a net gain in the wages available.

If everyone stays then of course we don't need many signings but for people to say we are waiting to spend it wisely well, I'm not entirely sure you've been following us very closely.

Equally if we re-signed Keane then I'd spend next season supporting a non-league team.

Which might be handy experience the way things are going.

....he's never played for you.

Maybe you'll resign Wolfwinky?

I don't agree with the narrative that our squad is great for this division anymore. Yes our manager is crud but the players aren't that good either.

Holy - bang average at this level, was the same at Gillingham and in fact they improved after he left
Chambers - In his mid 30's now and error prone
Wilson - As poor a Town player as we ever had, did well for what he is but shouldn't be anywhere near a club like Ipswich
Wolfie - still young and needs experience, one that could step up
Edwards - half decent at this level on paper, pretty poor last season
Skuse - mid 30's and can't play a whole season
Jackson - average at this level, still stepping up from mostly being a League Two player
Norwood - as above
Nolan - Average at this level but poor for us
Donacien - Not good enough to play for Ipswich, not even close
Wright - Are we keeping him on as a favour to dad?
Lankester - Injured
Bishop - injured
Nydham - Injured
Judge - Off field issues, should have done better but struggled last season
Sears - Injured and no manager seems to get anything out of him here
Downes - Class act, needs time to develop
Toto - beyond awful, another one who shouldn't be near this club
Dozzell - Injured
Vincent Young - Looked good, then injured
El Mizouni - Needs time
Kenlock - Average
Dobra - Needs time
Huws - Injured
Morris - Injured

So we have two guys creeping on 40 in Skuse and Chambers who shouldn't play many games next season, 7 injured and unfit players and largely a bunch of League One/Two players in Holy, Wilson, Donacien, Nolan, Toto, Norwood and Jackson. Our good players in Woolfie and Downes are still young.

There's a reason that most of these players were in the side that sunk like a stone in the Championship and then failed to make the grade in League One last season. Look at their careers, most of them have been lucky to even play in the Championship and have spent a chunk of their careers in the bottom tiers of English football. This is not a good side. The fact we released a younger player like Rowe who did alright and hung on to some of these shows how ambitious the club really is.

Football League First Division / Premier League Champions (1): 1961—62 - Runners-up (2): 1980—81, 1981—82 Football League Second Division / EFL Championship Champions (3): 1960—61, 1967—68, 1991—92 - Play-off winners (1): 1999—2000 Football League Third Division / EFL League One Champions (2): 1953—54, 1956—57 - Southern League Champions (1): 1936—37 FA Cup Winners (1): 1977—78 - Texaco Cup Winners (1): 1972—73 UEFA Cup / UEFA Europa League Winners (1): 1980—81
