2nd Test today 09:51 - Aug 13 with 3498 viewsIpswichKnight

Morning

Lovely day here on the Surrey/ Hampshire border hopefully the sun is shinning down the M3 in Southampton.

England will make 1 change for sure with Crawley coming in for Stokes and possibly Curran for Bess other than that I don't think they will change anything else.

Patchy rain potentially arriving about 11:12am

Storms later this afternoon

Crawley in at 3

Decision between Wood or Archer

Baffling decision to continue with Bess instead of Leach

Looking at weather I've put a fiver on the draw at 7/4

Quite likely. The South is where the showers are likely to be today. Bloody typical.

Curran for Archer is an interesting shout. Means our attack is quite one paced, albeit Curran offers something slightly different being a lefty and with a more skiddy action.

Agree with resting Archer but would have liked to see Wood get a game. They're the two we'll need in Australia in tandem. Having said that i like Curran as well and he's probably in because we're still a batsman down really.

agree would have liked to have seen leach but they seem to be packing the lower order with reasonable batsmen to make up for being a batsman down at the top.

Can only assume Wood has some sort of niggle.

Haven't *yet* seen anything in Bess to convince me. Appreciate he's very young for a spinner but he's not offering much more than Root could in that respect.

Agree, i think he could come good in time but i'd like to see us use Leach while his best years are still in him tbh

I think they lost confidence in Leach when he got outbowled in NZ. I'm guessing but the next spinner they will look at will probably be Virdi of Surrey.

Good management to rest and rotate the bowlers, but I’m still not overly convinced that Archer is the real deal or just hype? The jury is still out for me.

His record so far for a bowler just starting his test career is very good. I don't think he can consistently bowl at 90mph plus, especially when we're bowling him for long spells, but he makes stuff happen and doesn't rely on raw pace. He's a very good bowler imo.

Jimmy has started very nicely this morning. That's one of the most plumb LBWs I've ever seen.

I think expectation is making people judge Archer very harshly. I read this yesterday, it's good.

That's an excellent article. The scrutiny and questioning of Jofra is quite ridiculous at times.

Root over uses him. He needs to bowl him in short spells, but to give us that variety he needs to keep his pace up in the high 80s/ low 90s. He’s certainly a talented guy, but if he’s bowling mid 80s he’s no different from Broad, Anderson or Woakes.

Top of middle stump, plumb as you like!

Nice, soft hands from Burns there...like two breeze blocks trying to catch that!

It must really be a grind being an England bowler. I haven't seen the drops as I'm listening to the radio but Burns' one sounded regulation.
