Watched him a little bit a few years back over at Dagenham.

Was often referred to as Bambi as he looked very awkward when he runs with the ball, almost as if he’s uncomfortable. Did fill in as a makeshift centre back at one point too for a few games. Believe he did the same at Pompey for a little bit too. At Dagenham, he really wasn’t the greatest goal scorer and whilst he was getting in plenty of good positions, he was missing a hatful of a chances each week.

Whilst he’s tall, I personally doubt he’s what we need as a hold up striker. Perhaps a half decent option off the bench.

If there’s one player I could compare him too... the Keiffer Moore that we saw who often ran about like a headless chicken out of his depth. Obviously that was the one that we saw.. before he became good.

Makes you wonder if we have actually scouted him to see how good he is , or has he just been offered to us by his agent ......either way I would hope we can do better

Well you have to know how to use him I guess, link up place, almost like a bounce back board.

He’s not going to beat a man with his pace or trickery, he’ll be a very good option and different alternative from the bench.

Just you wait until Lambo turns him into the Benteke of the Villa years and we sell him for 25 million next summer.

Funny you should mention Kieffer Moore. We had Darren Currie, then the Daggers' assistant boss, on Life's a Pitch the day Kieffer signed and we asked him about him and he said there was a similar player in his squad who he thought was better referring to Hawkins.

That explains it. Lamber must have been listening.

Not sure why anyone would be negative about this, decent target man who still has plenty to offer, we could do a lot worse.

He definitely is a similar type to Moore from what I saw.

I wouldn’t be against him coming in but I doubt he’d be a first choice for us. Useful option though I’d suggest

Can only go on what I saw tbf.

We could do worse but is that really a strong argument for signing him? He’ll be alright for us but nothing more, nothing less I would think. Definitely behind Norwood and Jackson without any shadow of a doubt. A fully fit sears would be ahead of him as well.

Physical presence up front that’s available on a free, a proven goal scorer at this level and still has a good few years left in the tank.

Im not sure we could find better in his mould to fit our budget, especially not on a free. Great business.

Just looked and I wrote up those quotes.

“Oliver’s very similar to Kieffer Moore, obviously I’m going to be biased and say Oliver’s better!” Currie added.

“He’s another one that for a big man is good on the floor, very mobile for a big man, he’s got goals. He’s filled in at centre-half for us once or twice and he’s looked very comfortable there as well.

“He’s a great kid to work with, very humble boy, came from Hemel Hempstead, so his roots are very good and he’s gathering interest as well because he’s been playing very well.”

Currie: Moore Not Just a Target Man 15th Jan 2017 19:41
Former Blues winger Darren Currie says new Town striker Kieffer Moore is not just a target man and believes the ex-Forest Green Rovers frontman is “a real handful”. Moore, 24, joined the Blues on an 18-month deal on Saturday, the Blues having agreed a fee believed to be £10,000 with Forest Green. 12

None are really comparable though, Hawkins would provide a different option and think we've badly needed a big presence up front. And I think it will get done, incidentally.

My Pompey contact says he's a real players' player and "if any Pompey fan tells you he’s crap you can be sure they don’t know the first thing about football. However, needs ten chances to score one".

Genuinely excited about him as a signing...bonus being quotes provided by Phil from Darren.

Not a 'big enough name' for us.
Whoever the top goalscorer was in L1 this year, thats who we want. Or 4th top in the Championship.

That’s fair. He’s probably worth signing I suppose just for being a different option.

I would agree about the chances missed bit as well. Only saw him maybe 8 times but he regularly missed excellent chances. Does do a decent job of bringing midfielders and the wingers into play though with his hold up play. Perhaps I was slightly harsh on him earlier.

To be fair, I've had to talk to a lot of ex-players about a lot of potential signings over a number of years for this one success.

The first sentence of your quote sounds promising but then your second is a real kick in the teeth as we don't create enough chances.

Sounds like a certain Daryl Murphy when we signed him on loan first time.

A pound shop Kieffer Moore. Ironic that we're linked with Hawkins on a day when Moore is sold for £2m, but that's where Town are, filling up the squad with cheap cast offs, like James Wilson.

What do you expect? a £5m signing? A PL Loanee on £40k a week? We have a salary cap in place.

Yes, I don't expect Town to be splashing money around & it is a sad statement of where Town are right now. Part of the problem is that Lambert had been allowed to accrue a squad of over 40 professional players, many of which he has no idea how to use, while there still remain glaring gaps in the squad e.g, no left back, if Kenlock isn't good enough, plus no target man, which has been a glaring omission for years.
