we've never burnt a stand down and claimed the insurance money

Misread your comment, but did find the idea of peeing over the neighbour’s fence amusing.

I'd be more sympathetic to this had we, on exiting admin, started spunking money on players left, right and centre. Granted it was our own hubris and incompetence which ultimately shafted various local businesses but it wasn't like we were actively trying to avoid our responsibilities(which we, unlike Norwich couldn't afford to meet) and then waving our cocks in people's faces like Norwich have done. It was almost 20 years ago now and so many other reasons and factors which have wholly contributed to our demise since then (aka Evans, Hurst etc) [Post edited 24 Aug 2020 15:53]

It was twenty years ago but it marks the beginning of our demise without question. Administration weakened us to the point where we fell victim to a ticket touting wide boy like Evans and the rest is history. As far as our current situation goes Evans has no one else to blame but himself. Thirteen years of relentless decline under his incompetent ownership is his mess and his alone but the foundation’s for this to come about do go back to the Administration.

The thing that annoys me so much about ITV digital is that it was so obvious they were going bust, on the first weekend of that season you could buy all access cards in pubs and after a month the subscription rate said it al, Sheepshank had the whole season to prepare for the non payment.
Can you afford to pay your staff Norwich City? on 20:55 - Aug 24 with 3055 views | Swailsey | Norwich are now sadly a bigger, more successful club that us and have been for several years now. It’s time for people to admit it and acknowledge that their anger towards them is mostly based on that. Their dealings do not sit particularly well, but didn’t Liverpool do the same thing and then bowed to pressure when they realised they were going to make endless £100,000’s by winning the league? I too wish we were as tinpot as Norwich. We’ve been total sh*t for over 10 years now, with one exciting season as the hallmark exception. It gives me no pleasure in typing this, but facts are facts. They’re currently better at playing football, winning football matches, filling stadiums, buying players, selling players, featuring on TV, getting promoted etc etc. It sucks because it’s all true.

Technically they are not currently better than us at winning football matches because we won more than they did in 2019/20. Admittedly at a lower level but....

I did nearly caveat that bit! But I am willing to place a bet that they finish higher than us next year, even if they lose every game!!

Can you afford to pay your staff Norwich City? on 21:42 - Aug 24 with 2983 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Interesting change of approach. They took the cash without spending knowing they would get relegated but now are throwing money at a load of signings (or are they mainly cheap and freebies, I haven't been following them?). Of course radical squad changes often don't work. It would be interesting to see how long they will give Farke if they are mid table and whether a new man would want these signings. It would be nice to see them struggle.

Can you afford to pay your staff Norwich City? on 15:13 - Aug 24 by Libero | What about the promotions post Lambert? Or the superb restructuring of their Academy recruitment and teams? I'm sorry to say, but they're a pretty well run club these days. We've got history, but more about our recent activity screams tinpot than theirs... |
I think we have as many that are too macho and proud to admit Norwich are miles ahead of us. Same as they'll have the same number that we refuse to accept out achievements in the 70/80's. its rivalry, I get that, but absolutely pointless not being able to look at it with a level head. I was up in Norwich the weekend just gone, and that entire city is geared towards the club, green and yellow everywhere, the local buses, taxi firms etc. pubs with flags outside, its a proper one club city. Prem football has obviously helped to achieve this, and the whole area around the ground has benefited from this. But when people claim they are "lucky" - luck has nothing to do with it, you make your own luck in this world and they've done exactly this by not sitting still. the only positive I can find is that their fans have such a hugely inflated opinion of themselves that no matter what their board achieve they'll never match the fans, so will always be disappointment in the air. But my god what i'd give for the disappointment of going up and down every couple of years.

Yet 2 years of failed attempts of promotion back to the PL and they may well be in administration

remember when everyone, from the drips to the "experts" told us this was happening last time? then they sacked their manager, made a positive change, and went up? had that been us we'd have sat with the same manager and failed.....

Whilst it paid off for them, it's definitely a risky strategy. I wouldn't exactly call it good management to constantly have that risk linger over the club.

Whats the problem? Is every company that plays by the rules, albeit with a slightly sharp touch gonna be hung drawn and quartered now? Why aren't you lot pissed off at much larger multinationals which must have done the same thing and then carried on investing afterwards?

If you can't see the problem, you have no morals. Any company that could afford to pay their employees should have done so. To be fair, most will be just as pissed off with multinationals if they have done the same thing, however this is a football forum - hence your lot are highlighted.

Arsenal are even worse to be fair; making 55 staff redundant and then splashing out on Willian’s salary? Not to mention being linked to a defender as well. Yet this case, and Norwich’s, is simply swept under the carpet and accepted.

Not sure where you went but I live in Norwich and, thankfully, don't see much green and yellow around at all. It's only on match day really that you remember there's a football team here.

I'm not sure where you saw green and yellow buses. The buses here are operated by first buses and are mainly white with blue and purple stripes. Taxis as well aren't yellow and green in Norwich. There is one taxi firm, Canary Cabs, that might display Norwich colours but they're a really small firm. None of the main firms even have yellow and green in their logo. Maybe you were looking out for yellow and green so felt like you saw it everywhere but it's really not a particularly football mad city and you can stroll around and rarely see their colours.

perhaps I just saw 3/4 taxis with the logo then by chance. and regarding the buses definitely saw enough to stick in memory. as I say, maybe you are used to it, and it was an eye opener for me. that's all. you don't always have to be right, can just be neutral ground
