On an evening when the opening speaker, who appeared to be a human hide draped over a collection of wet and deeply regrettable farts, claimed that Trump is the 'bodyguard of Western civilisation', the gaslighting was strong on the opening night of the RNC.

It seems that the Republican strategy for the election is as simple as 'lie, lie and lie some more'. It's going to be a long few months.

From beginning to end, the whole thing was an example of up being down, left being right, inside being outside. Don't trust what your eyes and experiences tell you, trust what I say instead. Grandma is dead but Donald has done a magnificent job saving her life.

I'm sure the cult lapped it up, but I can't believe it played well with the constituents who live in reality. The tweet below gives a flavour of the event. FWIW I think that the UK is well on it's way to approximating this kind of political leadership, so no sneering about yanks please.

Oh and this is nice to see. Kill the base before they get to vote.

And finally... That moment when the botox just hurts too darn much.

Division is also very easy. You only have to appeal to 'your' people, everything wrong is 'their' fault and finding compromise is hard and takes skill.

Indeed, which is why populists very often are also racists.

If anyone ever complains about our own democratic system, they just need to look across the pond.

What a mess.

Trump or Biden.
One is a psychopath and the other barely has a pulse.
Neither are electable.

Where is the third choice? in fact, why do they not have more choices?
Why is it so binary?
Does that drive extreme politics more? I think it might.

You voted for Boris Johnson, those in glass houses.

I also like him railing against binary politics when one of his main justifications for voting for Johnson is "but Corbyn". Hampstead has caused me to get through so many irony meters over the past 12 months, I've lost count.

This is the problem with binary politics.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. This is why Biden will win. Despite all of Trump's comments on Muslims and Mexicans, his overall MAGA message was a positive one, which allowed him to run as the optimistic outsider. Now he's not delivered the wall or improved the prospects of rust belt voters, he has nothing left so he has ditched the positivity for scaremongering and has started blaming Biden for things that have happened on his watch.

Most voters know that the picture they're painting of Biden as a communist is laughable. Trump's blowing it.

Pardon my mistake. Must have been thinking of another poster.

Anyway, regarding your posts.

You're right I'm triggered by the last four years. Mexican children dead in cages, Black citizens dead under the knee of the police meant to protect them. School kids shot dead in their classrooms, the environment trashed, election cheating and interference, fraud, crime, racism, sexual assault and now 170,000 avoidable Covid deaths.

If that doesn't trigger you, then there's something wrong with you son. What is left for you to actually care about? Is owning the libs all you have in life? If so, that's pathetically tragic. These are real lives being destroyed or ended, and your response is to sneer?

Moving on, regarding your second point, I'll school you again.

Trump or Biden? (US Election 2020 Thread) by SpruceMoose 12 Aug 2020 1:42
Aye.

The choice between Mexican children dying in cages or not.

The choice between voter suppression or not.

The choice between the destruction of the environment (including the nation's largest forest and other environmentally significant locations like the Grand Canyon) or not.

The choice between cosying up to alt right white supremacists or not.

The choice between whether your (my wife's) health insurance will cover your (her) preexisting health condition or not.

The choice between having a misogynistic president AND vice president or not.

The choice between whether assault rifles are regulated or not (or the choice between whether more children will be murdered in school or not)

The choice between whether a woman has a right to do whatever she likes with her body or not.

The choice between a president who abuses his power to enrich himself or not.

The choice between whether there are more rapists sitting as Supreme Court judges or not.

The choice between an education secretary who rolls back protective guidelines for campus sexual assault victims or not.

The choice between whether there's a president who is happy to accept election meddling and election rigging from foreign countries.

The choice between whether DACA recipients (who have lived their whole lives as Americans while contributing to their communities) are deported to a country that many of them have never even visited or not.

The choice between having an rapist as president or not.

The choice between having an attorney general who acts like the president's personal lawyer or not.

The choice between having a racist, Islamophobic, homophobe as president (Oh hi Boris and Paz!)

The choice between whether there's a president who pardons his criminal friends or not.

The choice between whether the president turns half the country against each other or not.

The choice between being gaslighted every single day or not.

The choice between whether another 165,000 Americans die of Coronavirus or not.

The choice between having a bankrupt conman as president or not.

The choice between having a president who ridicules disabled people or not.

The choice between having a president who insults the families of dead veterans or not.

The choice between having a president who admires authoritarians and dictators or not.

The choice between having a president who spends 99% of their time rage tweeting on the toilet, golfing or watching TV or not.

The choice between having a president who hates indigenous American people or not.

The choice between having a president who demonises traditional allies or not.

The choice between having a president who would love to see every refugee die of thirst in the desert or not.

The choice between empathy or hatred.

Like you say, what a choice.

If all you have to offer is 'triggered', then sit down and shut up. Nobody needs to hear from you.

Maybe anyone who has not ran for President previously and failed more then once and who having been in politics 50 odd years has achieved practically nothing of note.

Will Biden go down as the only person to never debate? He is just a puppet and we all know who will be President within 6 months if he somehow miraculously wins.

Get ready for another 4 years of Trump.

What are you talking about? There are three debates scheduled prior to the election.

If you care enough to get involved in the subject, at least do a little homework ffs.

Biden won the nomination. He might not be everyone's choice. But the bigger picture matters right now and the polls (for what they're worth) consistently disprove your feelings. It's like choosing between a dry cheese sandwich and a shît sandwich. I know which I'd prefer if I was starving.

Who would you have nominated and who will be president in six months and by what mechanism?

That has intrigued me too.
Nov 3rd to Jan 14th is a long time for Trump to do things.
He could leave Biden with a poisoned chalice even more so than it already is.
I have no doubt that Trump will be litigious. He'll fire off law suits all over the place to muddy the waters. The supreme court will first have to decide whether any of these law suits have merit and can proceed.
I think of it as a 5 year old having his toys taken away so he's going to destroy the toys so no-one else can play with them.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Ignoring people's words in posts and inserting your own agenda into other people's words is poor form indeed.

Which bit of my post aren't you understanding and I'll see if I can break it down for you? By voting for the Tories you were voting for Boris Johnson to be PM. You may personally prefer Jeremy Hunt but he lost the leadership election months before the GE and so whether you prefer him or not is moot.

If you found yourself opposed to Boris Johnson and his version of the Tory party you could have not voted for them. But you didn't, you voted for them with relish and gave them your full support. You've been very vocal in that support over the past 12 months.
