Messi to City 10:23 - Aug 27 with 2258 viewshatch

Gathering some pace, although many still seem to think he could stay at Barca which is also possible.

I was just thinking though, if he signed for City and we hosted them in a cup - Lionel Messi could be playing at Portman Road next season. I know it’s ifs and buts but that’s a mad thought.

That would involve Shambert navigating us past the early rounds though

I can't see it.

As much as I'd love the greatest ever player to play in England, I somehow feel it was tarnish his reputation in a big way.

Ronaldo's thing has always been that he's done in several countries and continues to do it. Messi's is that he's done it consistently (and arguably better than Ronaldo) for the same club throughout his career and is synonymous with that club. Barcelona to Man City wouldn't sit right with me.

From what I gather his release clause has expired. It seems a power move and he will stay

The expiry date of the release clause is the subject of a legal challenge by Messi.

Pele's most replayed highlights;

1. A miss from the half way line.

2. A header saved by Gordon Banks.

3. Clever dummy that fooled the keeper, but resulted in a missed shot.

Messi to City - isn't that a happy clappers wet dream?

Fans up and down the country looking forward to see their team play Man City and hope to see Messi score a minimum of 5 goals against them - then claim it was the best match day experience ever. Man City turning the Premier league into a farce that makes Scottish football seem competitive in comparison.

That kind of fandom belongs in the MLS, probably best suited at Inter Miami Galaxy

Modern football eh?

Cruyff came to Portman Road and was virtually anonymous - though rose tineted memories would prefer to say he was marked out of the game by Roger Osborne....

.... so to make you mad thought even more lip-smacking.... imagine Messi almost invisible at Portman Road...marked out of the game by Skusey.

The old 16 team 'world cup'.

Even England could win it back then.

I can see it happening, purely from the point of view that UEFA will say you can sign him for nothing whilst it's all going through the courts to then hit them with a £670m release clause as a back door way to fine them after they won their previous legal case.

You're right, but amidst the talk of being cut away from the Championship / PL2 then Man City signing Messi will probably cut them adrift of everyone else in England.

Unless Messi turns into Virgil van Dijk overnight I don't necessarily see his singing overturning the massive gap that existed between City and Liverpool this season.

He wouldn't be in the squad for a game against us. He'll be wrapped up in cotton wool and probably only play against the 6-7 best teams in the Prem and in the CL.

Top 3 best player ever playing for Man City just doesn't seem right. Think it is America or China for him. What I would love to see is, Messi telling Barca, that because they made him the player and millionaire he is, he would stay and play for free if needed and perhaps become a coach or club ambassador. It ain't going to happen, but would be nice. Messi is Barca and should remain so.
