Lambert out, Paul Cook in please 18:01 - Aug 29 with 5836 views | Harry_Palmer | Marcus really needs to put Shambert and us out of our collective misery and replace him with Paul Cook while he is still available. Looking at his record over recent years and it really is quite impressive. Chesterfield - Promotion from League Two as Champions followed by finishing 6th and in the play-offs in his first season in League One. Portsmouth - Again promotion from League Two as Champions, after which he was poached by Wigan. Wigan - Promotion from League One as Champions, followed by retaining Championship status the following season. We all know what happened last season of course, technically they were relegated under Cook but without the points deduction would have been comfortably mid table. All of this was achieved while playing an attractive brand of passing football, I think he would really get the best out of our talented youngsters. Cooks win percentage with Wigan was 41.3, Lamberts at Ipswich is 26.9. When you also consider that two of those seasons for Cook were in the Championship it really is a no brainer. Come on Evans, take decisive action and make a good decision for once.

Obviously not, but at the time it was the right decision to make.

Grates my gears when posters go hunting back in time to resurrect posts. Exactly the sort of people that complain to peoples employers about something someone said in 1986.

Especially when everyone was of the same opinion, not sure this is the Gotcha that whoever resurrected is was hoping for.

Narrators voice: “he wasn’t a big upgrade”. It’s interesting looking back at threads like this to be reminded of what people were thinking. The takeaway message from this one isn’t that Cook didn’t work out, as his record was good. It’s that Evans continued to sit on his hands again.

100%. If its to point out hypocrisies from a poster then maybe fair enough, but just to drag up something to show that someone had a view or prediction that was wrong? FFS. Cook was far and away my preferred choice when we got him, I didn't think he could fail with some backing, and there will be loads of posts with me saying similar. I was wrong, ho hum, no tears needed.

You see, much as I agree with you, when I looked at the thread title I wondered why Dubtractor was digging this old thread up because your name was the one of the latest reply. So, perhaps, best not to reply to these 'dragging up' threads at all. Ah...

Agreed, I wanted Cowleys at the time but I was really happy with Cook. It's a massive shame it didn't work out and he seemed like a good bloke.

Not sure about that, he has no real experience- if he was given the job then no way will he ever achieve back-to-back wins.

He’s too smarmy, we shouldn’t want him anywhere near our club. Also our internationals wouldn’t respect some no mark who never played top level football.
