For the sake of the club's future I hope no-one in management is thinking like this. Since Downes is under contract and we don't need to sell then we tell him and Palace the price we'll take, the deadline we'll take it by and have it as non-negotiable. |  |

That's got to be the hope hasn't it? Even if we can't invest in the squad, use some of the money to bin off Lambert.
We'll miss Downes of course but I do feel that even without him we have an embarrassment of riches in midfield for this level. If we can't pick a decent trio when we have Skuse, Huws, Bishop, Dozzell, El Miz, Nolan, Nydam, and McGavin as options - even Judge if we play two sitters - then we may as well give up. Most of those players would be starters for plenty of sides at this level. | |

We need to go for someone who can put his foot in - yes, maybe not as cultured as Downes but someone possibly from the top of League Two who deserves a chance to move up. No idea who though! We’d have to look there due to that bloody stupid cap. | |

We've garnered some pretty massive fees for players in recent years (Wickham, Cressewell, Mings). But in the current climate and with us in L1, that's unlikely to be replicated.
The bigger issue has been players running their contracts down and leaving for free, or having to pay them off because nobody wants to buy. |
Unless you’re Peterborough, who seem to consistently sell at a decent price received, despite being at League One level. |  |
