Messi Wage 08:14 - Sep 2 with 3754 viewsgeg1992

Rumoured to be 2.4million a WEEK if he joins Man City. This is from the Sun so might be bull, but still, to put it into context, that's just short of the wage cap for the entire year for the entire squad in league one.

Madness.

Madness. What's the point? At some point it must just be numbers on a screen. Unless he gives 95% of it away to charity (and he might for all I know) then it's just ridiculous and immoral.

Blimey, that's more than double what I'm on.

So £300m over 3 years

Man City yearly wage bill is £360m.

It's madness. He's 232 isn't he? At some point over the next three years De Bruyne could become the better player. Then what? This is a terrible deal for City if it's true.

Someone is out of touch. Either City if they pay it, or the EFL for sanctioning such a stupid cap for league 1. How the hell can we ever compete?!

I've just googled Messi £2.4m and it comes up with an old story where he allegedly earnt that for an appearance. Do you have a source for that being his wage at City as it seems incredibly unlikely?

Edit: I see it's in the Sun.

It will be a disaster for City. They deserve what will come if they do this.

It is crazy, crazy money, but if some bog average player can earn upwards of £70,000 a week in the Premier League, then given that he is still top 2 players in the world, not far off the mark I guess. No player is worth £50,000 a week, let alone that. I would make a rubbish Chairman because I wouldn't be paying anywhere near that even if you turned back the clock and Messi was 23. Money is the ruin of many a thing and football is no different. How much money does one person need? Crazy times.

Crikey he could buy Flynn Downes and use him to run around in a new pair of boots to warm them up a bit before games.

Yes, Flynn, that’s the the sort of thing you will be doing in the PL for a couple of years.

Sorry, for a moment I thought you said 2 years at York!!
To be fair that would be good to see, but would obviously break the league 1 and 2 salary cap.

It's a lot of money, but I'm not that shocked anymore. If you want the best in the world, that's the price. Take it or leave it.

He's also worth so much more than just on the pitch. They'll probably make millions in shirt sales, before you look at other merch and other revenue streams. He probably makes a fair bit of that back for his club just from the interest in him. Even I'd be interested in watching a City game if it was a chance to see Messi in my lifetime.

If they can afford it, go for it. It's an amazing opportunity.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

What happens in the third year when Messi is 35? Should he really be on more money than De Bruyne in the peak of his career? This is asking for trouble. It could spectacularly blow up for City.
