If his relationship with the club/squad is past the point of no return, it's past the point of no return. Potentially naff timing, but if it can't be fixed then there's no point dilly-dallying.

Makes me wonder whether someone like Cook HAS been lined up to avoid the Championship vultures that will circle in the autumn?

That maybe true, but I can't believe even us would let things trundle on like this (if things were as dire as they are now claimed to be - excuse the pun) to then pull the trigger so close to the season finally starting.

Would be a very ME thing to do, he had Lambert lined up before he sacked Hurst. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The new bloke would have to hit the ground running, but it's better than Lambert hanging around trying to lift a team he's lost.

Because we were in lockdown and the players weren't back at the club? This all seems to have happened since they returned.

A chap on Twitter who broke various stories on Town in recent years. Particularly managerial sackings/appointments.

But given what Joe and others have said, sounded like he was fully expecting the sack once the season was completed and thus had no engagement with the players throughout lockdown. Sounded like relationships had broken down a long time ago.

The stories have only come out since they returned. Maybe the lack of engagement during lockdown was the start of it and it's all come to a head now? Certainly, just after the season was ended there was no evidence then that he was expecting the sack. In fact there's been lots of talk of learning lessons and things being changed for the new season.

Good job we have an owner who is really on the ball and moved quickly to rectify this situation.

But if you look at the details of most sackings, the firing club have 99% got a replacement sounded out and lined up to minimise disruption. You don't sack a manager and then have weeks without a replacement ear marked, it would be potentially be hugely damaging.

Who knows really, we are all just going on what other people have said, but clearly there was unrest last season with the constant chopping and changing and his record after Xmas was a sackable offence regardless of player breakdowns.

I'd be fully in favour, but... what a way to run a football club.
