Don’t worry Boris and Covid have signed a truce it is OK to party this weekend, said those under 30.

You shouldn’t be so quick to lap up the government’s chosen narrative of the week.

They’ve previously blamed health care pros for not using PPE correctly, they’ve blamed the care sector, they’ve blamed teachers.

It’s deflection tactics.

Guideline has always bee 6 people / 2 households, but police didn't have any power for anything above that until it reached 30 people. Now they do.

OK, so just a blurring between guidance and law then. It'd be a lot clearer if they aligned all this stuff.

Edit although I'm not clear on the numbers threshold - there is no current limit of 6 if everyone there is from no more than 2 houses. "only socialise outdoors in a group of up to six people from different households, or in larger groups if everyone is exclusively from one or two households (same link as before).

This is definitely being reported at a restriction of the numbers, and that's what the government think they are doing too. No wonder people are confused.

Yeah I did. And yeah, don’t give facebook any permissions.

There’s not a lot to see to be honest. Stay alert, that sort of thing. There’s definitely seven people in that house though, unless my maths are completely shot.

The link ran anyway if you didn’t click anything. Just goes to show how intrusive Facebook is but on the plus side they were open about it.

Nothing has changed - the guidelines have always been 6 people / two households.

The difference is now the police have more powers to break up any larger gatherings.

And also from the government info from track and trace (we all know we have/should have been registering when we visit pubs etc) the government know that pubs aren’t the problem where the establishments should have SD measures in place, something that doesn’t happen when 30+ people get together for a house party

Or, as Swanners helpfully pointed out a while ago, guidelines are not quite the same as the law. Guidelines advise and appeal to you to do, or not do, something. The law says you must do, or not do, something.

That’s seven people from only two households though. The current guidance says:

Indoors: people from two households (which may be higher than six)
Outdoors: people from two households, or up to six from more than two households

And the guidelines aren't limited to 6 people at the moment in all cases, only some - "only socialise outdoors in a group of up to six people from different households, or in larger groups if everyone is exclusively from one or two households".

It's a minefield though. Nobody's going to care about all these nuances.

It's almost as if Boris has got a Vic Reeves style Wheel of Justice that he spins at every Cabinet meeting to decide what Lockdown rule to set for 24 hours.
