This is much better from PL, 2 sensible changes and the opportunity for the majority of the side from Saturday to continue to build on the BR display. This is what he should’ve done last season.

Ironic that when Shambert should.... on 19:04 - Sep 8 with 2208 views | clive_baker | Bit damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. ME has given him strict instruction re. rotation, and he's clearly listened. The risk is injuries. If Woolfy and Bishop get crocked for 6 months people will rightly question why they were involved at all. Having said that, if we come through unscathed we should benefit. Can't beat playing together, building that fluidity and knowledge of each others game. Plus winning is habitual. IF we get through tonight with no injuries it's all positive.

....our players seem incredibly susceptible to injury. Chambo came off with an injury at the weekend, Wolfie was feeling his groin (oooerr missus) and Bish is made of glass. I just hope he isn't being pig headed to try and prove a point that ends up being to the detriment of the opening league match.

It's the very fact that he wins games only 27% of the time that gets people criticising him, yes. [Post edited 9 Sep 2020 17:39]

He’s right though isn’t he? I don’t think even Lambert’s most ardent critics had a problem with us playing the kids in this competition last year, it was the constant chopping and changing of the side and formation for the real stuff that was the problem Instead now we’ve gone from a situation where last year the rotation was apparently essential as we had a massive number of fixtures, to one where we have potentially more fixtures in a shorter season and we’re not rotating for a meaningless midweek game Bizarre

I don't recall anyone criticising him last season for rotating the squad and playing fringe players in these Cup games. It's a good opportunity to get minutes in their legs in games that don't really matter. Having most if not all of our strongest XI playing 3 games in 8 days off a short preseason following 5 months off doesn't seem incredibly sensible.

He could have not f*cked it up last year and won the league. That might've worked.

Well quite. Anyone would think he's only just taken on the job and that the animosity towards him isn't based on nearly 2 years of abject failure.

Actually think he was being bloody minded by sticking to basically the same side. Had we not progressed in the league cup could have understood it but with Fulham game next Wednesday, and potentially mid week games the two weeks after that Last night was the game to make around five changes. It was the senior players yesterday who didn’t take the chances to score that came their way.

In fairness, Taylor did all the press stuff for the EFL Trophy last season too.

Taylor and Gill did all the press for all the EFL Trophy games last year so don't think anything sinister in it

Lets be honest, even if we'd made multi changes and got beaten you'd still be moaning. I still stick by that decision and ultimately it turned out to be 3 with Ndaba's late inclusion and that's about right.
