I am firmly of the opinion that all goalkeepers should be called Bert, should sport a flat cap, and should spend the bulk of the game leaning on the post smoking a Woodbine. And for some peculiar reason it ought to be the left-hand post as viewed from the pitch.
Not sure if it is some image from the Beano or Dandy or even Viz that is burned into my brain, nevertheless that is how it should be.
