Politicians often get flak for taking holidays during crises. In this case doubled by the Government having imposed travel restrictions on a significant number of people. Plus Johnson's reputation for not being very conscientious at the best of times. Whether that's a reasonable criticism is a different matter. People in responsible positions need to take breaks sometimes, too.

It's only relevant in the context of whatever's going on with his Russian links and all that business with the Russian Report. And I guess we'll never find out the half of it.

One needs to pay more attention to why he bends over to Russian money to understand why it is a big deal. It matters, a lot.

There was a flight out of Perugia to Brize Norton on the 14th. Official UK Govt business. Peston’s take on it

One thing I've really found the press suck with is connecting dots between stories. The news cycle moves so fast (much to the benefit of those who want things to be forgotten) and these stories come out isolated with no wider context. Part of investigative journalism has become digging this stuff up and piecing together the jigsaw. This story is yet another part in how Russia has completely undermined western democracy using kompromat methods and thew general greed of politicians/lobbyists/think tanks. If anything good comes of all the world after the present (and we don't end up falling down a global authoritarian hole) is we need a serious look at the free press and potentially a British constitution. Our whole political system is based on a handshake and trusting those in charge to do the right thing. This government has realised if they tell us to f*ck off there isn't much we can do about it. The truth matters a lot, and the current powers don't want us to know what it is. Hence why lying has become the default position. Hypernormalisation. [Post edited 21 Sep 2020 11:35]

The trouble is the story as posted provides nothing to confirm that there is any Russian link. It is all wild speculation. Yes BJ is dodgy as feck. Yes the Tories are in hoc to Russian billionaires and we know that paid to the Tory party gives influence. But this story does not advance the case in any way. Basically it says BJ went to Perugia, we bet he went to see his Russian pal.

I've found with this lot, if something doesn't add up and there is a clear lie in the narrative from their side, it's usually because it's exactly that. If Johnson isn't corrupted by Russian money and/or influence, then he's doing a poor job of convincing those researching it otherwise.

Our media has little to no interest in connecting dots that threaten power. But they’ll go into overdrive connecting dots to neutralise those who threaten power. On a related note, our media’s lack of coverage of the Assange extradition case and its implications re: press freedom is utterly scandalous. Until you realise that they don’t see the freedom to speak truth to power as their job. Quite the opposite.
