This briefing 11:08 - Sep 21 with 8716 views | The_Romford_Blue | Why is he talking about what would happen if the cases were to double for the next few weeks every day? Telling us on what could perhaps happen maybe. Scaremongering.

This briefing on 11:44 - Sep 21 by The_Romford_Blue | Very convenient that today they decided to have the two medical people on the tv telling everyone how bad it could maybe become (up fo 200 a day deaths apparently. Even though over 1000 was frequent in April). And then there will be restrictions announced in the days after this very well timed briefing. Convenient. You just know this week they’re going to shut the pubs and ban crowds from sport again. Basically everyone must work throughout but any fun will be banned. |
I think you need to take a step back and have a think about what you are posting. It is entirely correct to have medical experts on TV explaining both the modelling and the consequences of the modelling. It's not scaremongering for them to outline what will happen if rules are adhered to. It's not "convenient", it's explaining in advance why the restrictions will be needed before they are announced - it's a pretty weird take to call it convenient. I know you are probably upset by what they are saying and what will follow (because you are right, restrictions will follow) but you need to look at the bigger picture - is it really that important that people watch football, racing or any other types of sports at the moment? This briefing on 12:11 - Sep 21 by The_Romford_Blue | You’re correct. I don’t think the mental health of the nation is being considered in any way whatsoever by the government. |
I think things like sport will go on regardless of any lockdown. That's a key mental health thing IMO. Not sure pubs and fans being in attendance are things where the mental health benefits would outweigh the negatives. I get why you're pissed off. At uni and it's f##king things up for you but it's the same for everyone. Plenty on here have had holidays cancelled etc. It's just a sh1t situation.

I don't think that's true but I also don't think it's as easy as you are making out. What would you do? It seems from your posts you'd have pubs open, fans at football on the Saturday then a bit of racing with fans on the Sunday. Sure, it will help your mental health but what about the 400+ people who died those two days? Not sure it's done much for their mental health. It's a really hard situation to balance, impossible really. Tell us what you would do rather than snipe. SB

I’m angry. The last thing the government think about is sending students like me the other side of the country and then say I’m not allowed to actually do anything there. Even my lessons are on hold atm. Was supposed to start next week but have this morning found out that’s gone to pot. And now they’re himting that they’re going to shut the pubs too. If they shut the pubs, there’s millions of people like me literally the wrong side of the country and effectively alone 24/7. Not allowed to socialise. I’m vaguely fortunate that I’m not living on my own again but it’s still ridiculous. Waste of my money along with everything else going on. It’s a joke. These c**ta running the country don’t care. They don’t care. Nobody cares. Tbh I’m not sure why I’m on here ranting. There’s nothing you good people can do about it.

This briefing on 12:10 - Sep 21 by ElderGrizzly | True, but we can only get so local in restrictions. For example in Ely where we both are, we are seeing cases declining. More than outweighed by other parts of the country [Post edited 21 Sep 2020 12:11]

It was that exact map that made me realise when I posted. Numbers have been pretty low in this part of the country throughout, I do wonder if that is down to density of population or even family group numbers due to ethnicity of the population and how different cultures behave as an extended family unit. I never realised that you were in Ely BTW. It is such a shame that the safer more sensible parts of the country seem to be potentially made to endure tighter restrictions because of the actions of other parts of the country

The university putting lessons on hold is entirely the fault of your university isn't it? There are no government restrictions on teaching online for instance or in a socially distance way in the classroom. I suggest you direct your anger to where it's appropriate and get on to your university liaisons today. Why aren't they providing online resources for you to study with or Zoom style lectures? I do agree you are in an unfortunate situation but it doesn't seem to be one entirely based around the current or upcoming C19 rules. I also understand you're angry and upset thought and it's not right you are paying for an education service that you aren't receiving. SB

Yep - I get that Rommy. I know that many people have been severely affected by the restrictions and lockdowns and will continue to do so. Many will have been affected financially or mentally or both - it's not good - in any way. By the same token - many have been killed by Covid, directly or indirectly. As was stated in the briefing today - it's a balancing act. And to be honest, one that is never, ever going to please everyone. Hold on in there fella - and try, if you can, to think of the bigger picture, not easy I understand when you are so personally affected.

Again, take a look at yourself. You complain on one hand that they don’t care, ffs if they didn’t care they would tell everyone that they could do what the fck they wanted. Is it really going to hurt you if you have to lose a few weeks of lessons or have to take them via zoom or teams or whatever? If the pubs are shut then so what, save your money, spend it on something else that you can see a benefit from. You’re young, you know how to use technology to stay in touch with your mates, do stop having an attitude that comes across as all deserving and needy and think about the bigger picture for once

Things were genuinely scary here at one point. It didn't feel safe at all to be out and about. Luckily that has passed and numbers are now low, but because of that every tit from Florida to France now seems to think it's a great time to visit the city. Increases in tourists, along with schools opening in the next week or so, along with inside dining, I imagine we will soon have cases on the rise again.

Absolutely, no relaxing here due to my wife and post-chemo effects. I think our rural nature and lack of living on top of each other helps a lot. Schools will always struggle to contain it, as Govt are so pressured to remain open but the facilities are not there to help

I'm famous for giving Romford a hard time (when he deserves it) but I think you're being a little harsh here. I'm sure he understands that everything you say is right, but that won't make his feelings of annoyance and frustration just evaporate. It's been a shîtty year and sooner or later everyone snaps. If I was Romford I'd grab my flatmates, go do a Tesco booze run, fire up some biftas and have a Supermarkets Sweep marathon. Take advantage of the downtime for a little bit.

Yea it's horrible but looks like the winter spike will be a thing. It's sh1t, but for me personally, I have to keep using the opportunity to get healthier etc. This will eventually end. For now we have to grind it out.

Unfortunately I think I've been less healthy during lockdown. Not always doing my 20km work cycle and eating and drinking a bit more than I usually would I feel. I think it's the lack of routine in the morning - I need to get back into the mindset of cycling in the mornings maybe. Have had a chance to work a bit more on my cooking though which has been great. Another one from the Cambridgeshire massive 😂😂 Oh I’m not relaxing by any stretch of the imagination. I think the rural location does appear to be helping combined with some sensibility, I don’t see too many people breaking rules around here, even in the young people. Even the schools seem to be taking a sensible approach and as someone who has a 16 year old who missed his GCSEs and has just gone back to 6th form so I get all the communications.

Sometimes a bit of tough love is needed. Your last paragraph is exactly what they should do and is a reasonable scenario that isn’t exactly making Romford sit and stew in his flat/house on his own 24/7 as was made out in the first “poor me” post. Most students would be happy to sit around doing nothing and I’m sure Romford is equally as happy but it doesn’t suit at the current moment

I love pubs and football as much as the next man but with those being unavailable over the last year I've had to make an effort to do the things I should do more of, and find new interests more appropriate to the current living situation. Like SB said, maybe that's cooking, maybe it's actively working on reading books you'd been planning to read, learning a new skill. I'm sure everyone has something they've never got around to doing or learning about. I know I mentioned sitting around the TV and boozing but I've found not being passive and attempting to be more active, keeping to some kind of routine, and trying not to let every day be the same as the day before has really helped my mental wellbeing this year.
