US election megathread 03:24 - Sep 23 with 162986 viewsSpruceMoose

Seeing as we are approaching the presidential debates, and with the actual election being only 42 days away, maybe we could keep this as a US election megathread for those on here who are interested? One location for all the discussion would prevent multiple threads clogging up the board for those who don't care to get involved?

Personally, the reality of having to experience this election in the near future is stressful AF so if anyone else wants to get stressed together... Jump on board.

Now, insert all the usual caveats about polling here but...it's looking positive that we will be rid of Trump come 2021, much to the disappointment of a couple of posters on here. 538 are well respected in the field of poll analysis so what they announce should be taken seriously.

Of course their analysis doesn't take account of any election fraud, Russian interference, voter suppression etc. But it's positive news none the less. Once Trump is gone, we can work on Johnson. Decent people of the world... Unite!

Pie was really good when he first came on the scene and his video about why Clinton lost in 2016 was brilliant - I even saw him live a couple of years back. But now his act is getting a bit stale, it's just a revolving cycle of blaming left wing supporters and not left wing leaders for their parties' defeats, with the occasional anti-Tory rant thrown in.

His stuff definitely plays a role - he's given me food for thought on occasions and still releases the odd funny video but it's getting a bit predictable.

My favourite Pie line was from a few years back when that former UKIP leader was on the news for having a racist girlfriend, despite them already being irrelevant by that point.

"Why are we still talking about UKIP? What for, balance? What are we trying to balance, tw*ts on the end of a spoon?"

This almost made me cry with laughter last night. Here's some thorough analysis from a Trump supporter about why he'll win 406 electoral votes, including in Colorado, New Mexico and Connecticut.

The 'formula' is to add 10-15% onto Trump's result from last time, because of factors including Antifa, Nancy Pelosi and Brett Kavanagh.

I love how this bloke thinks that the Kavanagh confirmation (something that happened before the midterms, in which the GOP were beaten by 7% nationally) will be a major factor in this election.

I've bookmarked the tweet just to see his reaction on Wednesday.

To add to this cutting edge analysis there is a fairly large number of Youtubers in direct communication with god who have been assured of Trump's victory.

Trump's campaign didn't even submit a profile for the California election campaign as it happens...

Spruce, I caught a piece on the news this morning talking about how gun sales have gone through the roof over the last few weeks, with gun shops being completely emptied.

What is the talk over there? Are people fearing a lot of gun related incidents this week with tensions so high?

It is a disgrace that this can be allowed to happen - stressed, tense people having to deal with he fallout of the pandemic, now also having a bitter, tense election and all be able to tool up. Really hope things do not go the way it looks once Trump loses and whips up his cult.

Not sure! Guns are incredibly hard to get hold of legally in the city so it's not a concern here. I think people are expecting Trump's cultists to get a little rowdy if he loses. I'm not expecting trouble in New York though, I'm expecting a party.

The problem is, many police, who you would normally expect to put them down, are in the cult. I dunno what they'll do though. Angry republican voters in deep red areas of the country are going to smash up their own towns and cities? Oh no. Stop.

You have to really feel for the Dem minorities in those areas. For them, life is going to be pretty tough for a while...

The blue in red states, like Missouri where Ms Moose is from, is usually concentrated around metro areas or college towns (surprise surprise). So if you're there you're probably in the majority.

However, if you're the one Democrat on the rural farm road that has ten houses over five miles then I suppose you'll have been keeping your opinions quiet. Why take the risk? Who will you call? The police? Good luck.

Electoral votes if polling leads translate perfectly to results

Biden 351

Trump 187

That’s how it breaks down, if the aggregate of the final polls prove an accurate forecast. Trump therefore needs to win ALL the states that are currently listed as marginal, just to make the result a bit less of a wipeout.

Voting numbers are already two thirds of what they were in 2016 - as it seems the battle lines are much as they are in the UK over Brexit. Between those who want to cling to the past, and those who want to embrace the future

Shades of the US civil war.
