US election megathread 03:24 - Sep 23 with 162959 views | SpruceMoose | Seeing as we are approaching the presidential debates, and with the actual election being only 42 days away, maybe we could keep this as a US election megathread for those on here who are interested? One location for all the discussion would prevent multiple threads clogging up the board for those who don't care to get involved? Personally, the reality of having to experience this election in the near future is stressful AF so if anyone else wants to get stressed together... Jump on board. Now, insert all the usual caveats about polling here but...it's looking positive that we will be rid of Trump come 2021, much to the disappointment of a couple of posters on here. 538 are well respected in the field of poll analysis so what they announce should be taken seriously. Of course their analysis doesn't take account of any election fraud, Russian interference, voter suppression etc. But it's positive news none the less. Once Trump is gone, we can work on Johnson. Decent people of the world... Unite! https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-election-forecast/ [Post edited 23 Sep 2020 3:32]

US election megathread on 18:19 - Nov 6 with 1018 views | shouldistayorcounago | So do we reckon we're gonna get a few states done tonight? PA said that it could take a few more days to count the final 40,000 votes as they comprise of ballots that require review, overseas votes from the forces, and provisionals.

I certainly hope so! I've had a bottle of Champagne ready go ever since Decision Desk called it at around 2pm! Final count takes days, but Associated Press will call it when they're 99.5% sure which way its going, based on number of ballots still no be counted, size of lead, and which way those ballots are likely to lean. Then its considered pretty official and everyone can pop their corks...because of the tantrums though I suspect they're waiting til its 99.9% certain before calling this one!

I really hope you get to pop the cork soon, but I've got a nagging feeling that tonight still might not be the night! Who can blame them, with the rhetoric coming out of the White House, it would be risky in the extreme to go early but looks like Fox will be the first to call it from what has happened thus far. The pressure is just building and building at this point and the longer this goes on, can do no good. Biden has done a good job of being the anti-Trump so far, which should please any reluctant republicans who voted for him!

PA is the prize. The other states are a bonus to run up the score and make the victory margin even greater.

I can't help but smile a bit each time I glance at Alaska. It's not been mentioned once, it's barely worth anything seat wise and it's lagging like a week behind everywhere else. Either those in charge there believe their 3 seats to be too insignificant to trouble themselves over or each time a messenger goes out he gets eaten by a polar bear. Maybe there's some people in a shack drawing straws to see who's next to make a run for it. [Post edited 6 Nov 2020 19:28]

US election megathread on 17:03 - Nov 6 by Oldsmoker | If the Senate is 50-50 then the VP will have the casting vote. I wonder how GOP senators will react to Kamala Harris sticking it to them. |
What is the current standings in the Senate? When I look it seems to be 48 - 48 but Republicans winning currently in GA, AL, NC and ME? So they will retain control of the Senate and Supreme Court? That will make things difficult for Biden I would guess?

There are 100 seats in the senate and the two in GA are set to go to a run off vote in January. Not all seats in the senate were up for election during the general election. As it stands, the count includes all incumbents As it stands the balance of the Senate is 46 Dem - 2 Indy - 48 Rep However, the two independent seats are Bernie Sanders and Angus King (who both caucus with the Democratic Party.) Two seats up for grabs in Georgia in January. The poor Georgians aren’t going to be able to move for political activists and adverts. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/georgia-senate-runoff-elections-perdue-ossoff-leoff

Very few roads in Alaska actually connect up to each other! I imagine ballots are being moved around by seaplane/boat/dog sled!

So until the run off in Jan it will be 52 (R) - (46) D + 2 (I) What way are the two run offs expected to swing in Jan? edit - just googled and the 4 currently being contested seats are not on the list as you said and NC may go to a run off also it seems. So AL would be in the bag I would of thought for the Republicans so would be 49 - 46 - 2 with 3 to play for in Jan possibly. Why is the USA system so bloody complicated. Looks like none of them will call tonight. Nevada press conference said it would be Sunday at the earliest for them and PA is going to be after the weekend by the sound of it to finish all votes. PA is going to release another big batch of votes later today as is Nevada, which might be enough for the AP to call them both, but not 'official'
