Why the woke movement and cancel culture is so dangerous. 19:59 - Sep 23 with 24844 viewshampstead_blue

This poor chap lost everything because of woke nutcases.

He raised genuine concerns about BLM and the woke and cancel culture community swarmed all over him.

Support BLM? Dare anyone criticize the hard left and woke nutters

He admitted to it in a thread recently.

and Yes, Marxism and socialism are responsible for cruelty writ on an epic scale. Please tell me I am wrong!

Herbivore also said that BLM is right to be populated by his ilk as it is only through crushing capitalism and the dismantling of the establishment will society ever be free.

Sorry, but you've got the wrong person. I believe in freedom and he and the left believe in enslaving us all in a cruel and destructive dogmer.

What the actual f*ck are you even prattling on about now? Your understanding of pretty much everything is below the level of even tabloid headlines and you show no willingness to engage in debate or educate yourself. You have a painfully narrow world view and anything which threatens it you react violently towards. You seem to think that 'the left' wants to turn us into the Soviet Union, it's like your brain is stuck in a Cold War era James Bond film. You really need to sort your head out, I'm considering making a referral to Prevent given some of your views.

Please answer my question. Where is your evidence that "free speech is something the woke movement and left want to stop"?

And while we're at it, please give me some evidence that "the left believe in enslaving us all in a cruel and destructive dogmer (sic)."

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

I consider myself a Marxist, that said I am pessimistic about the likelihood of the UK ever becoming a genuinely Marxist society and I would only support peaceful and democratic revolution as opposed to actual armed struggle on the streets.

It's all pretty meaningless really, we're stuck with capitalism despite its ills so I mainly actively support causes that seek to amend and temper capitalism's destructive tendencies as they are probably more realistic to achieve than redistributing ownership of the means of production to the workers.

Nowt wrong with being a Marxist or looking at the world from a Marxist view. A sizeable proportion of serious economists, sociologists and political scientists do just that.

I get that most people can’t process that given how Marxism is portrayed in popular culture. And especially the man in the street in the UK or the average Joe in the US where the level of political illiteracy has become staggering, with now even centre-left social democracy and democratic socialism often characterised as far left in nature.

It’s a perfect demonstration of how our so-called centre has been sliding right, masked by our commitment to individual liberty that makes it seem on a superficial level as if equality is being addressed. Spoiler alert: It ain’t. And Marxists generally have a better grip on that.

I think the problem here isn't you saying I'm a Marxist, it's your outlandish interpretation of what that actually means. When you debate with me on this you're debating with someone who has a degree in politics, who wrote their dissertation on Marx. You are coming at this with an understanding of Marx that, at best, you got from watching From Russia With Love. That's why there's a disconnect here. You chat absolute sh!t because you are ignorant and show no desire to become less ignorant. That's why people get frustrated with you. Most of your views would be considered ill-informed in a discussion group involving under 5s, but you seem to feel your voice should be heard and respected. Educate yourself for Christ sake.

Maybe my words are less than optimal.

However, the left won't give you freedom, absolutely not. You can flush any thoughts of freedom away if they got in. Big Government knows best.

Genocide? Well that is a very strong word to use. I've used it in the context that socialist governments have gone down that route often in the past. China, Russia to name but two. Cambodia is another.

If you look at what life has been like under the left all over the world the word 'freedom' is hardly top of the list of what people have had. They crush any signs of free speech and thought.

I am surprised at the way these things are ignored and instead posters simply throw abuse as anyone who shines a light there.

Could you perhaps give us some examples of the kind of policies right wing governments all over the world have implemented that have increased freedoms during the last decade? You seem to be very worried about this aspect, so I expect you've been keeping a close eye on their achievements.

An example from each the following categories would be good.

Economic
Social
Environmental
Health care
Criminal justice
Electoral

That should get the ball rolling.

Do you know what woke actually means? It means being awake to modern issues (particularly injustice). There's nothing "nutcases" about it. It's actually what normal, right-minded people are all about.

It baffles me that the right insist on using it as an insult!

Unless they believe that there are no injustices and people are just imagining them?

Communist Party of Kampuchea. (Khmer Rouge)

Communist Party of China

Russian Communist Party

Not socialist.

Before having opinions, best you establish some facts.

By the way, a definition of Socialism

“Socialism is a political, social, and economic philosophy encompassing a range of economic and social systems characterised by social ownership of the means of production and workers' self-management of enterprises.”

You are a socialist, since you advocate for social enterprises. Social Enterprises are self-managed organisations that are not for profit and and have a social benefit as part of their purpose.

It is very weak to try and excuse your arguments as “less than optimal” but then double down.

I think it's more that they only care about injustices when they directly impact them. That's the point at which a problem becomes real.

A lack of empathy is a persistent characteristic in many of those on the right. In this case, I imagine that the army has done all it can to knock that trait out of its service members too.

What? There are plenty of countries ruled by the "the left" where freedom of expression and thought are encouraged. France, Portugal, Sweden, Austria, Italy, Finland, New Zealand... to name a few.

You're literally speaking from the perspective of a right wing country that has just undertaken the largest removal of freedoms from its citizens in its modern history, for heaven's sake

It’s attacking their ideology (or revealing the lie if we’re being honest) that hard work gets you what you want and the justice you deserve. And everything else is an excuse.

Even reality apparently, which sees many of our hardest workers at the very bottom of society and demonised for it. And many minorities and groups in society playing catch-up from much harder positions and having to endure much tougher conditions along the way as well.

I think that’s why Hampstead idolises the guy in the OP who has a point about individuals not limiting themselves, but seems a bit too fanatic about that in downplaying society’s actual role and responsibility. It’s got to be both, not one or the other.

He shone a light on a pretty nasty part of a movement.
I tip my hat to him.

Some have criticized his prose which I feel is wrong. Not everyone writes in world class prowse.

Calling him racist, or a closet racist is again missing the point and tacitly supporting the online woke and cancel trolls. He's done a good thing and should be thanked.

BLM have been dropped by lots of organisations. Less pins seen on the TV. Why? Because the message has been ruined by thugs and the hard left.

It was you who said that their objective of dismantling the establishment and crushing capitalism was a good thing and an obvious bedfellow for the message of ending racism.
Very sad indeed.

Capitalism is built upon prejudices, you cannot remove those prejudices without dismantling what is built upon it.

Fair play to you for continuing to engage. I think you have a pretty extreme view of what "left" actually is, probably not helped by the alt-right tactic of smearing anything they don't like as far-left!

Plenty of people have been given freedom by people you'd dismiss probably nowadays dismiss as woke, cancel-culture lefties, without a gulag or genocide in sight.
Apartheid was ended, in-part, due to political pressure and boycotts campaigned for by lefties. (boo! Cancel culture!)
We now have the freedom to marry whomever we want, regardless of their sex. (Actually brought in by a centre-right coalition government but campaigned for for many years by "woke lefties".)
Many of us evil lefties would also argue that reducing poverty, providing access to education and health care, and providing a safety-net gives people a huge increase in freedom (at a cost of some people paying more tax, and thus being slightly less-free).

Sometimes people (or even government! boo!) need to step in to prevent one person abusing their freedom to impact on somebody else's. Those militias in Georgia, patrolling with their machine guns, shout a lot about freedom but I suspect the black residents of those cities are feeling a hell of a lot less-free at the moment.

As for "Calling people names doesn't make it right"....as a hard-left, Neo-marxist, genocide-supporting, woke, cancel-culture leftie I'll just smile at the irony.

Similar to with Paz, there's a small band of posters on here who want to have their say and state their opinions with absolutely no comeback at all. Anything that slightly goes against their grain doesn't even register with them. It's zealotry, pure and simple.

They post in bad faith as they aren't here for genuine discussion, they're here to have their biases confirmed, and when they aren't, they either lash out or just completely ignore anything remotely inconvenient.

Their method is to post, ignore replies, repost same wonky concept, ignore more replies, repost more of the same while this time claiming that people are blind to reality, repeat. That's they way this thread will continue for as long as Hamstead keeps coming back to keep it alive. He won't learn or reconsider a single thing from this thread, or any thread he's posted over the last year or so.

I don't know why they're here. They waste their own time as well as everyone else's.
