Chad have requested a halt to the process of making Lake Chad a UNICESO world heritage site so they can exploit the oil. I do understand the economic reasoning but it also doesn't seem like a great idea given 45m people live off the resources provided by the lake.

Ties in pretty well with Prince Charles’s Marshall Plan to give aid to protect the environment.

Something’s got to fill the gap because if it’s only possible for developing countries to grow through ceding mineral/natural resources rights or by damaging agriculture, tourism etc. or pimping out their workers then the world will develop as the worst version of ourselves rather than the best. And the problems are just magnified.
