As crap as the original incident is, also nice to note the response of people to the Go Fundme. Far more decent people that cu nts in society even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I hope he becomes a millionaire because you can guarantee he will give loads back to the people who need it. It's in his nature. I also hope the people who torched his van and gave him abuse read what he has done for his community and try and make up for their crimes. Somehow sadly I doubt they will.

Moston is rough as fudge, and a ripe recruiting ground for the Far Right unfortunately because it is still fairly white and incredibly deprived and forgotten with a lot of agencies using it as a dumping ground for people.

The fact he's been a multiple victim of racially aggrevated attacks is depressing too.

Moston is not an area I'm familiar with, so will have to take your word for it that racism is rife.

Would only add that in the big cities there are rivalries between food trucks that sometimes spill over, particularly where OCGs are involved. For reference purposes see Scotland's "Ice Cream wars", there was also documentary on TV a few years ago about Burger Vans and the fact that many seemed to catch fire or get robbed more than others.

Here's hoping his dream rises like a Phoenix from the flames

It's rife with poverty, so the racism is an unfortunate side effect. I've got mates from there who I trained with etc. look like they'd stab your granny, all got records, nicest guys ever when not trying to murder you on the mats.

It's a complicated area and similar to the one I work in. The racism is really resentment and frustration. They see immigrants coming in and believe they're getting better because they are also getting houses etc. So when like this bloke they graft, some resent that too.

We deal with similar attitudes at my place fairly regularly. North Manchester was defintiely forgotten about, when Moss Side etc were getting all the money and regeneration, the attitude was that largely white areas in the North were missing out and it became racialised, because the gang/crime picture was different perhaps.

Without seeing for yourself it's hard to understand, and I admit i avoid Moston like the plague.

I used to live in Whitefield but worked Anger Hey and Gorton principally, but also radiated out from there across Levenshulme, Beswick etc.

Seem to recall Harphurey being the limit of my journeys in that direction, which boasted Bernard's club within its boundaries, so no surprise with attitudes really.

Yeah I used to drive past that on my way to work and we get kids from there, Cheetham Hill etc too. I'd say when I started at my place it was 90+% white and a large majority of those were descended from Irish families given the surnames and proximity to where the Irish settled in the Victorian era.

In the past decade it's boomed into kids from all over, I've had Iraqi and Syrian kids telling us about the war, kids from all corners of Africa and kids born to African parents in the EU who consider themselves to have at least three cultures it's been a fascinating change.

East Manchester is probably very similar to Moston

Reading that GoFundMe...

The police attempted to arrest the man in question but stated they couldn't do so despite him not being able to provide good enough reasons why this van was in his possession.

Can anyone explain this to me? He had a stolen van in his possession but they couldn't arrest him?
