There’s all types of captain, you don’t have to be vocal and in people’s faces to be a leader. Perhaps Wilder sees him as someone that will respond well to the responsibility and inspire others through the way he plays?

Exactly. And he always helped us play better as a team — mostly by being able to control and keep the ball and bring in other players but also I suspect because he worked so hard.

Head drops easily? Really?

He was a grafter and would run all over the pitch putting in his all. I can't see how that tallies with his head dropping easily.
