Anyone else struggle with Autumn? 08:16 - Sep 28 with 3598 viewsDubtractor

This time of year really does me in. The shortening days and everything slowly dying gets me feeling pretty miserable every year.

I fear that this year, with home working and no real social life, is going to be a particularly bad one. Especially as the weather switch last week was so dramatic.

Woe is me.

Edited for spelling. Also to add that I like the crisp and clear cooler days, but too much of autumn is just grey and damp.

Yep, I'm with you fella.

Still...on the plus side 3 from 3! ;)

Seriously though - I get it. I look at Autumn as a time of renewal and a time of change and I don't mind the changing weather so much. It's the shortening days I'm particularly not keen on.

I love the autumn/winter. We have Halloween, Fire works, Xmas. Love all that stuff. Hopefully snow. It's the best time of year. But then, l really don't do heat, so summer is never good for me.

Worst time of the year, usually only bearable by going to live sport as nothing else gets me out of the house as no one wants to do anything!

Autumn isn't my favourite time of year but I'm generally able to find stuff I like about all of the seasons. When it's not raining there are still some lovely walks to be had in Autumn and the evenings drawing in, after the early weeks where I say every evening "It's getting light so early now", aren't so bad. Good for cosying up and watching films with a glass of red. Plus we're on the home straight to Christmas now as well.

I've always quite liked Autumn*, colder days but still fairly pleasant, Autumn colours as trees turn brown and orange, football season under way, warm pubs and darker beers and it probably always helped that my birthday is in November.

I do wonder what this one will be like though, WFH has been ok when it has been light outside but it will be less fun when dark at 4. No football, limited pubs, certainly no big month of drinking and socialising in December. Bright cold days are fine, I'll get out and walk still but cold, wet days can do one.

* Yep, I've seen Herby's Mash link.

I love autumn. The cooler, fresher temperatures, leaves changing colour. Prefer when it isn't p1ssing down with rain, tho.

Edit: Hadn't read Herb's post before writing that!

Current scenario aside I don't mind winter.
Most of the things I like are in abundance

1. New Music Releases
2. Football - We still have hope!
3. Xmas Build up
4. Love the colours of the leaves until they drop
5. Darker evenings early sort of makes me not feel so guilty if I stop work at 5 pm. When I am supposed to !!

I do however particularly dislike Jan / Feb.

I like Autumn, it's a time to embrace nature at it's finest. I agree, the coming of the dark afternoons and mornings isn't welcome.

Make sure you leave the house as much as you can for a walk, we can get some wonderful weather in September and October.

Going to be harder this year though given all the things you've listed are likely to be cancelled or very small scale.

Can fully understand people not looking forward to long dark days working from home.

It’s so lovely and cool after the heat of summer, there’s all the autumn colours and those gorgeous walks in the park with the sun slanting through the trees.

Summer’s fine, sure, but who doesn’t love cuddling up under a blanket with hot choc to binge-watch the new season of The Crown? Mmmm

Agree with the OP.

It's about packing-up the summer stuff and looking for the wax jacket and gortex. Chilly bones in the morning.

Looking forward to spring already.

Edit: It's also the end of the cricket season. That in itself requires a great deal of mourning.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

+1. You can keep the snow and ice. It makes driving a pain in the arse but the rest of it, yes please.

I don't like summer. Autumn is the best time of year. New Year's Day usually depresses me because I love everything about Christmas. Christmas is over. The slog of January and February with nothing to break it up. Then spring emerges and it's nice for a couple of months before full on summer f##ks me up every single year.

Truly impaired.

good lord, I never realised how many weird people post on here!!

Autumn when its hot and sunny is ok, but a lot of the time is cold, grey and damp. Leaves fall of the trees making everywhere look messy and you have to put more clothes on too keep warm.

What's wrong with some of you lot liking Autumn!!

Next you'll be saying Winter is good cause you like mince pies

There are some good things about Autumn, especially the turning of the leaves & it's certainly a whole lot better than winter, although not a patch on the optimism that comes with spring.
The seasons are one of the things that differentiate the world outside the tropics, but I wouldn't object to a Mediterranean climate for 12 months.
