With that and parachute payments they’ll be awash with money.

Budgie Godfrey? Never heard of him. Not much of a budgie either, as he's not going cheep.

....Buendia too.

Plus Leeds are sniffing round that girl they've got in midfield.

Aarons will be off as well I expect.

The money is only really useful if they go back up though, it's the usual issue that if they get promoted before the para payments stop they'll be OK, if they don't they'll struggle.

The hope is that they start the season off badly, sack that freak of a manager and then make a bad appointment.

If only.

They got promoted just at a time where the parachute payments had stopped and were in danger of being alongside the other also rans in the championship.

They always seem to manage to be ok and get their timings right.

The absolute polar of us unfortunately.

Something like £500m has gone into that club over the last 5-6 years . Yes they’ve got a nice academy , and some good young players from it. But I’m truth they’ve achieved nothing on the pitch except be less than convincing PL relegation fodder ( whereas others clubs promoted have at least put in a good effort) .

Narwich are nothing but a “ wealthy” championship outfit who yo-up’s between the two divisions .
Is that what football is about now? Having a large bank balance for the owners, sitting at the top table in your rags, not really ever fitting in or actually competing ? Are they really “ better”, or simply just “ richer “ for failing in the PL and are now caught up in the gravy train of clubs that think they are big because they are Sky’s whore?

Didn’t they make a conscious decision last year to not spend and keep costs low, take relegation on the chin but strengthen their finances? I may have that wrong, but in this money driven world it might not be the worse idea. It’s sad that it has to come to that and a boring approach for the fans though.

Half of what they wanted

Ben Godfrey - from The Athletic by itfcjoe 9 Dec 2019 16:06
Norwich would want £50 million for Godfrey

Ben Godfrey’s performances for Norwich are not going unnoticed by a number of Europe’s top sides. Borussia Dortmund and Lyon, two clubs who like tapping into the English market, have made checks on the 21-year-old centre-back, while Tottenham and Arsenal are also keeping an eye on his progress this season.

But The Athletic understands that Godfrey is rated so highly by Norwich that they would want around £50 million from any buying club. That valuation is gauged by Harry Maguire costing Manchester United £85 million and Adam Webster, who had only played Championship football, joining Brighton for £20 million from Bristol City.

Godfrey is captain of England under-21s and expected to make the step up to the seniors at some stage, while club sources believe he has many of the attributes required to become an elite defender, including exceptional speed and temperament.

Lol if Godfrey is “ worth”£50m what price Dozzell?
BG has a fraction of AD’s International appearances and Dozzell been out of the game through injury . Don’t make me laugh by saying Godfreys got PL experience. He’s spent most that season chasing shadows. It’s a joke that a player can be valued at a certain level just because of which division his Club is in. Downes being another prime example. ( “valued” At £1m by a PL Club. As soon as he signs for them his “ value” sky rockets) . Football is a rotten to the core now. It’s not about the “ beautiful game” anymore is it . Quite sickening tbh!

Dozzell is valued at training costs at the end of the season. The sensible move would be to sell now

You can't argue they do great business. They buy young players or bring them through and sell for big fees.

We always end up losing players for decent, but not WOW fees.

Imagine if we had sold a few for £20m+ like Norwich, could have cleared half our debt the last 4 or 5 years!

Webber is a sensible guy but they are also becoming a team full of foreigners if these young players leave. Makes business sense but you also have to be very careful that you don't sign players looking for a big pay day who don't care.

I'm yet to be fully convinced with Farke as a manager, they did play some good attacking football when they got promoted but they've been exposed defensively.

Unfortunately they are light years ahead of us at the moment and it's going to be very hard to plug that gap.

I think they have accepted where they are in the pecking order (no pun) and adapted to suit.

There are plenty of clubs outside the PL who are pretty much fcked through 'chasing the dream'. Don't waste huge sums on transfer fees and wages that cannot be met once outside the PL.

Invest in a good scouting system, and coaching. Identify promising youngsters who will be able to make the grade and accept that if they are really good they will move on.

It is not lack of ambition to recognise clubs of both our sizes are not going to make the top six, win the league or cups at the moment - but I would trade their last decade for ours. However on the positive side I think Lambert will get us going again. Not looking for a quick fix, finding the right players at the right cost and getting the whole club moving together.

Fans just need to have a bit more patience.

The biggest issue is that their players have Championship and PL experience therefore inflating their value, our best talent (Bishop, Dozzer, Downes) would all be worth 3-4 times their real value if we were higher up the league echelons.

Lets be honest, all three could easily handle the Championship and could argue they would hold their own in the PL.

There was never any need for us to be down here. That's down to terrible ownership. Utterly clueless when it comes to football. Has the money, doesn't want to use it.
