It's basically the same deal we had when we were members of the EU except it's got a chapter on digital trade which I am sure the EU-Japan deal will also have shortly.
Hardly a massive achievement.

According to BBC it's very similar to the EU-Japan deal so we would have had it anyway and it's not a replacement for any of the lost GBP from leaving the EU.
It's like signing a player we had on loan the season before. Good but we've not actually improved the squad.

Totally agree. Although given that our starting position was going to be zero, it is good news.
Shouldn't be necessary, but that's another issue...

If you're being generous to Brexiteers, the EU didn't have an economic partnership agreement with Japan when we voted to leave, it's only been agreed since then, in 2018 at which point it became the largest trade deal ever negotiated between the EU and another nation.
But yes, it's nothing incremental from the position we left.

'' The new deal largely replicates the existing EU-Japan deal, but has an extra chapter on digital trade and lacks the quotas for agricultural exports such as cheese that Brussels wrested from Tokyo during years of talks.
Instead, the deal allows the UK to use any agricultural quotas left over by the EU. British officials are confident there will be enough space in the quotas to maintain and increase the UK’s food exports to Japan.'' FT today "
So the UK is left picking up the scraps left after the EU has had first dibs.
And all the cost of the negotiations has amounted to, is the UK being worse off.... there's a surprise

So basically we cut and paste the contents of that deal which the EU were negotiating while we were in the EU and claimed it as all our own work?
Just one small problem; sell their houses to who, Ben? Fcking Aquaman?

Great analogy, J2. But let's not steal their thunder...

Probably.
I've spent the past 2 weeks working on Brexit planning in my job. The whole thing is a complete fecking disaster. We all knew this would happen of course.
