How do we see Usyk vs Chisora going on Saturday night? 18:18 - Oct 29 with 1778 viewsChrisd

This might be closer than many are predicting.

Usyk boxes rings around him and stops him late. Chisora is getting on and has fallen short every time he's stepped up, Usyk is too good for him despite the size difference.

Really like both of them. Would absolutely love to see Usyk KO Joshua. As unlikely as that might be.

Truly impaired.

It's a tough ask for Usyk, dealing with Chisora's size and stamina. But I still see him winning on points. He has no concussive power at heavyweight, so has to be careful.

He's still my favourite fighter of recent years though. And Del is having a sort of Indian summer of his career.

I have zero idea how this is going play out though! Should be a good watch anyway.

I’m thinking the same Footers. Usyk for all his craft, footwork and glove speed hasn’t been hit by a proper heavyweight and Delboy is pretty durable. Usyk isn’t a renowned puncher and Chisora is definitely taking his boxing career more seriously under Haye’s guidance. He looks so much leaner and fitter. I still fancy Usyk on points, but it won’t be as straightforward as many believe. You certainly know Chisora will leave it all in the ring whatever the outcome.

I defer to people who know more about boxing than me, but how does this guy (Chisora) keep getting big fights after losing so many bouts?

In this instance it's because he is a known quantity who should provide Usyk with a decent enough test following his step up to heavyweight whilst not posing too much of a risk of actually beating him.

For all his defeats, he’s had some good wins too. He’s a good indicator for those looking to make a name for themselves in the heavyweight division, he’s not an elite fighter but he’s certainly a very durable one and decent in that weight class. Also, having David Haye doing your management probably opens a few doors for Chisora too.

Doesn't really seem like competitive sport to me when you put it like that, but thanks.

I think it’ll be interesting to see how Usyk deals with a boxer who knows how you use his weight and throw it about.. He will definitely put it on him early too. That’ll be his potential downfall at HW, coming up against heavier guys who will tire him out more than at CW.

My prediction is Usyk on points, don’t see him putting him away.

Really good points Verona. It’s not often a cruiserweight steps up to heavyweight and dominates. Who was the last to do that, Evander Holyfield?

What worried me was how bad the performance against Witherspoon was. OK, it was a step-up, but to then talk about Joshua and Fury after that? Hopefully just a bad day at the office and he's learnt about how to deal with the size/weight that proper heavyweights can use against him.

Don’t get me wrong he looks fantastic, still light on his feet for a big guy. Think he will make some impact on the division if he gets going. This will only be his second HW fight in over two years since he won the Super Series.

Yeah only one who dominated stepping up is Holyfield like you say. Roy Jones went from Middleweight to Light Heavy and then won a title at heavyweight but never defended it and moved back down.

He was quick to name drop Joshua because he has a mandatory doesn't he via WBO? (For becoming undisputed).

I think he needs to get a move on personally, I guess Covid hasn't helped matters but you would have thought he would have taken on a top 5 fighter by now.

Yeah sorry, you're right.

I'm just so uncertain on his height/weight at this stage to be calling those names. But then again, I suppose he's never going to make up for that! Personally, for me Chisora is still a considerable step-up into HW, but think he needs to be acclimated before a proper title challenge.

Years ago he would've walked away with it, no questions. But with today's HW giants and his frame and style, I just don't know.

I hate to use the cliche, but it's heavyweight boxing. Every fight is competitive. You can be sparked in a second (see: Whyte/Povetkin as a recent example). Just because someone is deemed lesser technically is no reason to dismiss him.

Usyk is a far better boxer than Chisora, of that there is no question. But whether he can beat someone he should beat on paper given other factors is another question, and no as black-and-white as you put it.

It's fine, Herb. I now class myself as a socialist who thinks most people don't deserve socialism.

I'm sure every fight is competitive, and wouldn't dismiss anybody, i don't know enough about the fighters.

I was talking about the sport, as in the organisation and administration of it. There doesn't seem to be a competitive league or order of merit, it seems to be dictated by money and entertainment. My response was in direct reference to the answer that Chisora was a "decent enough test" as though he is there for the benefit of the other boxer.

Yeah agree with you completely, will have to see how he gets on at the weekend. I think getting the stoppage would certainly do him the world of good.

Based on his cruiserweight fights, I do personally see him giving AJ a decent go if AJ were to try and box him like the Parker or Ruiz 2 fights. Think it could be a brilliant fight if it does happen.

OK, so to explain:

Usyk is undisputed champion at cruiserweight. He had a step-up fight at heavyweight against a relative nobody in Witherspoon and had a mediocre fight.

He's now fighting established heavyweight Chisora who has been at pretty much world-level for the last god knows how many years.

It's like a promotion-winning Champ team who are known for a slick passing style coming up against mid-table Prem brutes.

I remember Tim Witherspoon beating Frank Bruno. Maybe it's his son.

Yeah thanks for that, i understand. I'm just used to seeing boxers reach the top by winning every fight, maybe losing 1, and then when they lose 3 or 4 that's kind of it, they retire gracefully, this Chisora just keeps coming back so was wondering why aren't other fighters getting a chance. Maybe there's a dearth of fighters at that particular level so he's the only decent opponent they can find.
