So yesterday I got my wish and we could listen to another BBC commentator. I think that no one could argue that, despite calling Portman Road Fratton Park and calling McGuinness McGoldrick, Martin Fisher was a vast improvement on Brenner Woolley. Calm and measured, brought out the best in Matt Holland (who was impartiality personified), would have been a joy to listen to were it not for the refereeing decisions (which were also well exposed by the BBC coverage).

A lot of credibility is lost when you don't even know where you are. A commentator getting the ground they've traveled to wrong is unforgivable, particularly as he said it because the scoreboard came up on the screen, which showed us quite clearly as the home team.

Brenner was much better for me, as Matt Holland was much better than Mick Mills.

Do we know if Martin Fisher and Matt Holland were at the ground? The commentary could easily, and more Covid restrictions respectably, have been done from another location via Zoom or similar, perhaps Fisher was at Fratton Park...

Joe's point about the television commentary doing some of the work for the commentator is a good one, still helps if the names of the players are reported correctly though. I don't want to see Woolley out of a job, I just want him to be a little less miserable when he commentates. I suppose we should count ourselves fortunate that Morrissey is not a Town supporter and is very unlikely to be co-commentator, suicide rates amongst our support would quadruple.

This is very true, I did wonder if they were there, but I'm pretty sure they would be? I'm not sure. I know Brenner and whoever are at the games when they commentate

"perhaps Fisher was at Fratton Park..."

Come on, you're being silly now.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Well I do feel humbled now that my totally serious comment has been undermined...
