Not a single Sunderland player even appealed for the penalty! Don’t think any of them were asking for a red either!

They were pleasantly surprised to get a free kick. No one suggesting a booking and as shocked as our players that the card was red. Until he then (eventually) found his yellow card later I even thought he must have only brought his red along.

Red card I get.

Pen is just a joke! Even with the rule as it is this season it’s not designed to be used in that sort of situation. Surely!

it looks like Dozzell only went to ground as he got a heafty shove from the first Sunderland player.

How in all seriousness is that a red? Grappled from behind and on the way down as he was trying to maintain possession??? If we don't appeal that then what's the point....

As for the peno....don't get me started 😉

Apologies that was meant for Vic...still fuming over here.

There's no way it gets overturned on appeal, sadly.

How so Herb? Did you see a different angle with more intent/studs up?

If you look at their number 6, when the whistle goes he picks the ball up and starts arguing with the ref cos he thought the decision was against him for pushing Andre.

So, which was the worse decision? The red card where Dozzell was fouled , causing him to be unbalanced? Or the penalty, where no attacking player was involved and McGuinness cleared the ball into his own face, with the slightest of irrelevant graze of his sleeve en route?
Both absolute shockers.

No, just think the ref can say Andre wasn't in control and I'm not sure there's enough to say the ref is wrong in that. I don't think it's a red myself but I can see how it ends up being one, it looks like he jumps in a bit and he goes with both feet. It's clumsy and made more so by the shove. The penalty is the real shocker of a decision.

It wasn't a red, but he is right, it won't get rescinded. They'll protect their ref as they generally do.

I’m with you on the red card, we would be very lucky to get it overturned. That was never a penalty only person on the planet who thinks it’s a penalty was the referee, no doubt we’ll get some guff from the Referees manager saying it shouldn’t have been given.
