Team for tomorrow's game.... 09:21 - Nov 9 with 8824 viewsitfcjoe

....having gone to extra time it is going to be one of the youngest ITFC XIs ever, from what I understand it will include players that I've barely even heard of or seen with one potential surprise in there!

I'm looking forward to seeing what it is come 6pm tomorrow

They’re having a two week break now? If that had been a league game they would have played and it’s not as though paying disrespect to the cups has helped our league form at all in the last few years.

They are, but they'd had a game every few days for several weeks after a long break so how much is too much? There'll have been knocks, as Lambert said. I'd rather be cautious. It's a long season and we're winging it as it is, until we get more key players back and match fit.

We've also got 11 league games between 21/11 and 2/1, just 2 midweeks off in that time.

It's time for the first team to get a 2 week rest in ready to go again for another mad run of fixtures

I did wonder the same, when Joe talked about a surprise.

Not sure how much training he has done, but sure I heard he was back on the grass.

Doesn't seem that unlikely to be fair - was meant to be coming back around now and we didn't hear anything about Norwood until he came in on Saturday.

If that's the case i'll cry tears of joy!

Imagine having to play 180 minutes of match football in 7 days.... poor little lambs, dunno how they do it.

But seriously, with the time off coming up, those that need the game time would surely benefit, even 30 mins here and there tomorrow night??

Rest the Wards and the Chambers, but Jackson, Norwood, Bennetts, etc would all benefit from a bit more game time surely?

We haven't got a game until 21st so why would we need to change team much.
I'd go for the best side being a mixture of regulars who didn't play at weekend plus youth.
We need to use game as practice for upcoming fixtures do a win is a must

Fair point but the first XI would get a fortnight’s break now which would then allow the second XI to build match fitness against Crawley.

I don't see that Norwood would, 60 minutes when they onloy wanted to give him half an hour on Saturday.....

There may be a couple who could do with a game, but realistically James Wilson aside, I'm not sure who needs one out of the first teamers.

Everyone else just need to get themselves over any little niggles picked up in the big run of games and make sure they are flying come Shrewsbury.

Vrawley played about 150 minutes yesterday and will be playing a total reserve team too, but ours may be basically our 3rd or 4th XI

I do think we just need a relatively settled League XI who don't play outside that competition......with cup games, U23 games, and a bit of rotation etc to keep the rest of the players sharp where we can plus filling in with the odd suspension and knock.

We’ve seen what usually happens when the players have had a two week break - they come out leggy and the opposition is all over us, resulting in a lack of match fitness being used as an excuse.

We played a strong team in early cup game against Arsenal u21s which saw our best CB get injured and miss 7 or 8 games, I'm normally one who wants cup runs to breed winning but this years is such a sh*t show - it calms down after Xmas but until then it's stupid.

We play our 22nd league game of this season on January 2nd, last year we played our 23rd game of the season on January 1st.

So despite starting the season 6 weeks later we catch it up at effectively the half way point, the scheduling is baffling we've had to fit 7 games into the same period as last season rather than spread across the season - we need to use our squad properly. If we can be in good shape in early January then we will be laughing

Maybe. Didn’t Portsmouth pick up two injuries against us which I suppose is the warning sign of what may have happened? I think I would have been more accepting of the decision had we got 2+ points out of Lincoln and Sunderland.

The thing is we need to make the most of this now. For too long we have rested players in the cup competitions only for the next league match to be awful - in terms of performance, result or both.

I think that's generally just because we've been awful for a good couple of seasons full stop - ultimately these are squad management issues which will all be justified if we go up and be picked apart if we don't!

You don't see who needs game time?!

How about Jackson? Didn't play a second at the weekend.
Bennetts. Hardly played at all since signing and desperate for more minutes.
Cornell. Surely will start in goal?
Wilson. As you already mentioned.
Dozzell. Didn't play at weekend and out for two more games, so needs to keep playing.

Dozzell needs to be wrapped in cotton wool, just no reason to play him when he hasn't missed a minute in the league and previously had barely started 3 games in a row.

Did not intend to click on reply before typing anything!

Certainly I can see absolutely no reason to play Dozzell-it is only a week since he last played, not a month.

Dozzell won’t have played first team football for almost a month by the time the Charlton match comes around. Playing tomorrow would at least cut that down by a week.

He's arguably our most important player given the way we play. Do you really want to risk injury to him in a complete nothing game that truth be told we probably want to lose anyway?

Absolutely. Lambert would get absolute pelters if he risked Dozz in a nothing cup and he got injured.

He's lucky he didn't get pelters for Woolfies injury - he clearly aggravated it against bristol Rovers as was struggling, then played 2 days later and ended up missing a number of games

Good point, although I think Woolfy was more in need of game time at the time than Dozzell is now.
