You lot can use me and Illy as guinea pigs for this. If we develop frozen buttocks or elephantitus of the pecker then you can make your decision on whether or not you take the vaccine.

"Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."

i am not sure i should think this way, but if this had been announced 2 weeks ago, a certain egotistical cretin from across the pond . would have used this for his own purposes to win the election for president

While being cautious and understanding this isn’t a magic bullet or guaranteed; I do hope this forum becomes a bit more optimistic about the chances of something like this helping us quickly return to normal. Virtually everything posted on here is negative with anything positive played down for some reason.
Let’s be cautiously optimistic that 2021 is going to be much, much better and make sure we help things along by doing all the good things we should be doing with distancing and masks etc.
I'm the world's biggest optimist but I still think it's wise to be cautious.
They've spent decades trying to perfect a vaccine for "ordinary" 'flu, which is also a coronavirus. They haven't managed it yet due to mutations. Tens of thousands (incl me) caught flu last winter despite having had the standard flu jab.
I posted a couple of weeks ago re an interview with a Prof (can't remember his name but Gordon endorsed him) who said, basically, that more effective treatment was more likely to be a way out of the pandemic than an effective vaccine - compared it with effective treatments for HIV - for which there's still no working vaccine.
Just read you link and then went to Facebook: the first thread I saw was about this (in a local walthamstow group). Most comments by far were along the lines of "no thanks", "no way am i touching that", or "they made it too quickly to be safe"! Even including one from a bloke who says he has asthma.
I mean, wtf?
Edit: the most dpressing comment yet:
"3 people I know have died from it .where my partner works, one has it , his daughter is in a coma and his mum died . I still wouldn’t get it "

Just to be clear, flu isn't a coronavirus. It's the influenza virus which is a totally different virus family.
If this vaccine really is 90% effective that is huge - flu vaccines range from 20% to 60% effective most years.

It's their own analysis isn't it, not peer reviewed?
Also only 93 people in the trial?
Edit: my 93 point is mis-heard on CNN. Back to work...

Only 94 people got C19 out of 43,568 on the trial.
"Phase 3 of Pfizer's trial involved 43,538 participants from six countries. They received two doses of either the immunisation or a placebo, with 90% protected from the virus within 28 days of having their jabs.
Only 94 people who took part in the trial developed coronavirus and no serious safety concerns were reported, the US pharmaceutical firm said."

Thanks. Misheard someone on CNN.
60% was a good number for effectiveness (where flu vaccines are), so this is significant. Lets hope 90% or even 80% is the end result.
They've got millions of doses ready now. It just needs approval.

I particularly like that the trials were across 6 countries - were they also different continents?

Excellent!
Edit: Something more for the brexiteers to chew on -
"The EU has secured 200m doses, which it will distribute."
[Post edited 9 Nov 2020 14:32]
To be fair, as much as I dislike the Tories, they've done brilliantly to get 40m doses. 10m doses by Christmas if it gets final approval would be amazing.
This is one where we have to give them some reluctant credit.
