Where will we be in 8 games time? 08:40 - Nov 11 with 7673 viewsitfcjoe

Sat 21 Nov 3:00pm Shrewsbury Town H
Tue 24 Nov 7:00pm Hull City H
Sat 28 Nov 3:00pm Charlton Athletic H
Tue 1 Dec 7:45pm Oxford United A
Sat 5 Dec 3:00pm Plymouth Argyle A
Sat 12 Dec 3:00pm Portsmouth H
Tue 15 Dec 7:45pm Burton Albion H
Sat 19 Dec 3:00pm Peterborough United A

The season, and Lambert's future, hinges on these 8 games. 5 at home, 5 against sides who you expect to be right up there (if Oxford sort themselves out...) and only one spare midweek.

I'm happy for the Cup's to be written off this year, it is a freak season.

But get the next 8 games wrong and a change will have to come before January.

With 5 games at home, you need to be picking up a minimum of 13-14 points if we want to be competing at the top end this season.

If we drop down to a point or so per game then we are in big, big trouble as a football club.

I do believe we will be at Saturday 19th December 4.45pm, give or take a few minutes added time.

I suspect it will be bad enough that we will head into Christmas and the new year baying for his head until Evans finally relents.
I'd gladly eat humble pie as far as Lambert is concerned but in the two years he has been here he has done zilch to suggest we're going to suddenly become consistent and savvy enough to beat the better teams.

13 points from the last 11 games. And Edwards was fit and playing for 5 of those too.

How long does a run of poor form need to be?

"Promotion chasing"?

Does anyone actually think that?

We are dropping like a stone and there is no way we are better than last season's 11th place finish.

Are you suggesting we're not hoping to get promoted?

We could still get 13 points out of the 8 ( realistically 10 ) but I think that the playoff goal is a false flag. We have shown no ability to beat the probable playoff teams so getting into the playoff position is mute. We might fluke it against one team but not two.

The idea that we just need to be in touch with the play-offs is another example of Ipswich Town's hierarchy talking themselves into oblivion. The play-offs are the long shot, the last chance saloon, the lottery that, all things being equal, you get a 4 to 1 shot at winning. Reaching them in itself isn't a success, it's a final chance at redemption. We're one of the biggest clubs in this division, the standard we should be aiming at is winning the league.

As it is, we set the bar so very low at Ipswich that everyone at the club gets resentful (the manager picking fights with the press, the owner releasing snarky press releases, the players sticking their fingers in their ears when they score) when no one gives them much praise for just about clearing it. The gap between support, management and owners gets ever wider, there's more sulking, more resentment, more failure, then finally, more lowering of standards.

Point of order: the fingers in the ears was a joke about there being no fans, it wasn't an attack on them.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Very much doubt it!

Burton will be a struggle with only one striker so would need Dobra to get a brace.

Peterborough will be a bad loss as they'll be very positive knowing we leek goals and can't score.

The Shrewsbury and Plymouth wins during this run were not entirely convincing, either!

If we were to lose tonight, surely Lambert would have to offer his resignation? I can't see how he could just trot out the same old stuff post-match, knowing full well that he is utterly failing the club.

Obviously that means we're going to win 1-0 after our first corner of the match in the 73rd minute bounces in off a defenders back or something.
