COVID vaccinations 14:38 - Nov 12 with 2205 viewsportmanking

My mother-in-law is a senior nurse at a local surgery. She told my wife last night that her surgery - and many others in the region - have been warned to expect considerable side effects from the COVID-19 vaccine. I'm not quite sure what they are, but the surgery was also told as many as 25% of their workforce could be off at once with ill-effects from the vaccine.

No-one in the media seems to have touched upon the side effects? Either way, next year's going to be a logistical nightmare.

The phase 3 test said there were no adverse reactions in 44,000 people so that doesn't tally with the results of the testing.

I've just seen the link posted though so it is possible there could be side-effects in some people but the article says they cleared up very quickly. It doesn't use an attenuated virus like the flu vaccines though.

Doesn't seem like they have many quotes given the size of the test - we will have to wait for peer review to see the exact percentages that reported side-effects and things should be clearer.

I did read somewhere that it was no worse than a really bad hangover. Can't remember where I saw that though.

So it should just feel like a morning after a Town game for most of us.

There were some people talking about a Severe Hangover reaction to the Pfizer one, but we are yet to hear about Astrazeneca, which logistically and finacially would be be far easier for our govt to rollout.

You could have it at 5pm on a Saturday immediately after an ifollow to simulate the full experience of emptiness.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

The side effect is probably the fact it has to be kept in ultra-cold storage at below minus 80C and they're expecting a few people administering to get frostbite

Thought 44,000 took part in the trial and half of the had the placebo.

Since you to fully rest for at least 15 minutes after brun vaccinated, presumably there can be an immediate reaction but nothing long lasting.

No offence, but I'll wait for more official sources of information on any possible vaccine side effects...doesn't sound too different to the effects many get from the flu jab if true.

My partner's an NHS doctor and says he's been told the exact opposite and your mother-in-law's talking rubbish. Easy this, isn't it?

This doctor says that any reaction would be immediate or at least the first few hours.

He has a quite balanced view of the whole thing.

All very well and good. But what does Professor McConkey think about Luke Chambers' contributions to the Town squad?

Side effects have been very widely covered and are described as a 'like a hangover'. You also need two doses - so like two bad hangovers

Less widely covered is the relatively poor efficacy. Trials so far on young healthy people are showing 90% efficacy which will plummet on wider use in less than healthy people. Also somewhat unknown is the length of protection, which could be just a few months.

First up for vaccination are the high risk patients with co-morbidities. Many will think they are immune when they are not. Expect a devastating third wave.
