Of course there is some truth in the fact the car helps him massively but when conditions are an equaliser he consistently wins and wins very well. Well done to him. SB

Very hard to cross sports like this. Hamilton is an incredible athlete, but more of a sportsman than Sir Steve Redgrave? I would argue not. I am not knocking Hamilton or his achievements, just not a fan of cross sport judgements. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Isn't Hamilton one of, if not the best, wet weather drivers? Besides it's the British way to build em up on the way to the top then decide them when they get there? It's all Academical, Hamilton is the best.

He is the best, at least equal to Senna. He's definitely the best Monacoian driver ever ;-) It's amazing how such a small country produces so many top racing drivers

I see your point but I often hear that driving a car is not a sport and F1 drivers are not athletes. They are among the fittest athletes out there. I would put Him above Redgrave but it is arguable.

Indeed, Bottas is an out and out No 2, that’s what he was signed up to be. Well done to both Lewis the team and the fantastic team at Brixworth, an outstanding effort again from British engineering talent.

I did say he is an incredible athlete. All top level sports people are. Hamilton is the best of his generation and arguably of all time, but is he the greatest sportsman of all time? Sorry, but the answer is no.

F1 is a team sport with multiple elements that deliver a winning car etc. But only one person drives that car and delivers for the most part on race day. Redgrave was part of a pairing with Pinsent for a lot of those wins. (Doesn't take nothing away from what he's achieved just reinforces you can't really compare the two IMO).

Did he not win anything on his own? As for the accusation that is usually levelled that he has the best car so it is easier - the best driver always ends up in the best car. There is no doubt Hamilton is a top sportsman and that F1 requires high levels of athleticism. It is also impossible to compare one sport with another aside from how dominant within their sport someone is.

Hamilton Academical is one of my favourite team names out there - probably just pipped to top spot by The Strongest from Bolivia, who are, ironically, shyte (but get great results at home because they play at 3600m above sea level, like all the Bolivian sides do when they play in the Libertadores).
