Home workers - heating on yet? 13:10 - Nov 16 with 3064 views | Dubtractor | I'm guessing a fair number of you are currently WFH - have you bit the bullet and turned the heating on yet, or are you holding out a bit longer? Conscious of the eye watering gas bill I'm likely to get this winter, I've held off having the heating on during the day for now, but today might be the day my will breaks as its ruddy chilly!

Home workers - heating on yet? on 13:11 - Nov 16 with 2725 views | footers | Get yerself a mini fan heater, Dubbers. Mine cost £20 and is handy to turn on during the day if it gets a bit nippy. Don't waste money on heating the whole house, innit. God, I'm even boring myself.

Home workers - heating on yet? on 13:12 - Nov 16 with 2715 views | TractorWood | I have a new build so the total lack of character is forgiven in the winter as you only have to stick the heating on for an hour every day, even when it's freezing.

Decent advice that. | |

Dubs, do you usually.... on 13:21 - Nov 16 with 2665 views | Bloots | ....WFH? You can get some tax relief if you don't, worth a few quid to cover the bills. I can PM you the link if you want.

You can also make little paper vehicles and have competitions to see which is faster being powered by the fan. Not that I've ever done it, obviously.

Home workers - heating on yet? on 13:24 - Nov 16 with 2636 views | StokieBlue | Heating has been on for a few weeks, can't be dealing with sitting here in the cold. Although it's obviously only "on" when it drops below the minimum level or when I am feeling particularly chilly. SB | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I didn't until March, have been here every day since! I was aware of the tax relief link, and keep forgetting to go to it. My initial post is more about me being tight rather than that I can't afford it in fairness! Cheers. [Post edited 16 Nov 2020 13:37]

Home workers - heating on yet? on 13:36 - Nov 16 with 2590 views | Steve_M | It's been ok so far, although I did go out for a lunchtime walk one day last week to warm up a bit. If it's cold enough to be needed I'll put the heating on though - fortunately doesn't normally need to be on for too long to warm the flat.

Home workers - heating on yet? on 13:44 - Nov 16 with 2581 views | ElderGrizzly | It's been on since the end of September periodically. Claim your tax 'rebate' for WFH and that covers the increase in the bills :)
Home workers - heating on yet? on 13:58 - Nov 16 with 2529 views | C_HealyIsAPleasure | My wife works from home anyway and for some reason thinks the house should be at about 35 degrees so the heating is basically on all year round anyway As a really boring aside on the billing front, our gas supplier (who I won’t name but sounds similar to a racist organisation) basically had a massive c*ck up with our meter and realised a couple of months ago they had the wrong meter for our property for the past 3 years. Long story short as they can only back bill 12 months they’ve had to ‘assume’ how our usage has been split during this period. Presumably this has been based on some sort of average which is skewed by lockdown as they’ve estimated about half of the 3 years usage to be in the last 12 months, so I’m now in a rather lovely dispute involving the energy ombudsman on that one. Fun times

Backdated to March from what I gather on the initial payment I received. It doesn't cover it all of course, but with both me and Mrs G claiming it it helps
Home workers - heating on yet? on 14:13 - Nov 16 with 2462 views | SpruceMoose | We had the opposite problem. Massive electric bills over the summer because we were home all day with the AC running in 32+ degree heat. Couldn't be avoided though as it's not a good look to facilitate Zoom meetings in your pants looking like you've just run a marathon. We will make that up in the winter though as we don't pay for the city steam heating.

Home workers - heating on yet? on 14:26 - Nov 16 with 2437 views | Bent_double | Been on for the last couple of weeks. On the advice of the BG engineer (I know!) who does our yearly boiler service/safety check, it goes on and stays on 24/7 throughout the winter. His opinion was that it's not that more expensive, as they house stays at a permanent temperature rather than letting it go cold and then having to burn more gas to get warm everyday, plus it's less wear and tear on the boiler, as they're designed to be on all the time. I've kept a close eye on the gas usage and it's fine, especially as the house is warm day and night. Plus the cost is a business expense anyway, as my home is my business!

That is how I run mine as well, so effectively the heating is on all year round, it just never gets cold enough most of the year to kick the boiler into action.
