Chromebook is a limiting factor which it you don't know everything they're intending to use it for could be a dealbreaker. Stick with a windows 10 laptop if its for a young teen, you know it'll be compatible with all school related stuff as well as any games or whatever.

Is this still true? For primary schools everything seems to be an app now.
You can run Windows stuff on a Chromebook but it's probably more effort than most people want to put in to be honest.
