Thanks to all of you that have been kind, fun and engaging. I really do wish you all the very best for you and your families and those close to you in these uncertain times.

Take care

Presumably he didn't aim these kind of comments at you then -

"... equated eating farm animals with eating their pet dogs. Also because (he) flatly rubbished my need to eat animal protein 2 or 3 times weekly due to health problems."

I still do rubbish that. Are you telling me if meat vanished from society tomorrow you’d be ill? You can get all the stuff you need from plants and boost with supplements if needed. And meat eaters have just as bad deficiencies in their diet too.

Much pro animal product research that still haunts our health space was commissioned and paid for by those who profit from selling animal products.

We’re not even half a century out of having doctors advice smoking for stress or companies that push high sugar content products deflecting health dangers onto other areas like fat consuption.

Corporate lobbying rules the world.

No, the way you make your point is aggressive. You post with an enlightened arrogance that puts people off your points.

For veganism I would rather talk with Herbivore, Eireblue, or Swailesy.

Your political points, you do have a point with some of them.

The whole “holding mirrors up” thing is ridiculous.

“Being on the right side of history”, yes mate. Those that are don’t need to shout about it.

That’s what pisses people off.

I genuinely think you’re probably a decent guy, I reckon you’d be a laugh to cook food and play goldeneye with. But I don’t think your posts come across well on here. Which is a real shame. I’ve watched a few documentaries like What the health, Game Changers, Cowspiracy, I reckon you would have some interesting opinions on them. But I can’t be sure that what I will get is a proper chat about them.

During the first lockdown you talked about the possibility of having a mental breakdown. A few of us were quite concerned about you. I certainly didn’t want to see that. It was interesting to hear about the your exercise journey. How’s that going by the way?

Exactly this. Callis refuses to accept that the the makes a difference and instead pulls out the Balotelli t-shirt.

What's annoying is you can calmly argue against his points but the next thread he'll be throwing the same nonsense at you about your perception etc.

I've watched the slaughter house videos. I watched Dominion. I've been open to everything the vegans have thrown and it's made a difference but only to a certain extent. To then be told repeatedly that it's your perception and you're just refusing to acknowledge the truth is quite annoying.

Oh and none of you bastards have bumped the vegan mega thread.

My main issue is the idea that it’s me who’s changed and not society’s attitude. It’s simply b0llocks.

The vegan mega thread is hard work, long threads over time always die down.

That's a different argument IMO. Society has clearly changed, I would completely agree. The long term trend is only in one direction and the proof is everywhere. From McPlant burgers, to entire vegan aisles to the selection of vegan Christmas food which frankly looks better than the non vegan stuff, the western world is definitely embracing more plants and less animals.

You have definitely mellowed though. It might well be that you no longer feel you're pissing in the wind and massive credit to those of you who went vegan before there was the amazing range of decent vegan alternatives there are now.

I really want the Wall's vegan sausage roll now...it's bloody amazing.

Shame to see you go Solomon, although I must say I would have preferred you discussed the avatar thing with me and replied to my posts. I still think that criticism was highly distorted from context and intent.

I’ve been here a decade and my intentions are rarely (if ever) not transparent, even if I go arse over tit explaining at times and a handful of posters like to put words in my mouth.

I don’t understand where the idea anti Semitism is happening here has came from. There are very heated debates on the subject within topical political framing but I haven’t see anyone post these things.

Of course, if they are in existence here - be it outright, subtle or systematic and I’ve missed them - I’m happy to have them pointed out, explained in context and listen.

I will say I agree slightly with some criticism you are guilty of soundbites. I have tried to engage with both you and Bloom on the topic and the responses have been non-existent.

I do find it odd people will argue to the hills with DK or Banks making these points in a more heated defence, yet when I post legit questions seeking evidence of claims or ask why the whole debate is framed around one party rather than the whole political system and society, is completely ignored.

It’s deffo me not having to p1ss in the wind. The more sh1t thrown at you the more intense and hostile a debate will come, particularly when, as DK said, you are being hammered from all sides with ignorance. Some TWTD highlights aimed at me personally.

You drive a car and kill bugs though and use planes.
You eat food designed to replicate meat.
You used to eat meat yourself.
You used to dress as a taco and they contain meat (Thumbs up to Jeera for that one!)
But almond milk/avocados (I eat neither, rubbish foods)
You said eating meat is the equivalent of the holocaust (no, I didn’t)

These aren’t valid or logical debate points, just attacks on the messenger. No one ever drags up that nonsense anymore though, because those who said that stuff are almost certainly embarrassed.

I used to have some fairly poor informed opinions on feminism ten years ago in a similar frame of debate. I felt I was supportive of the cause but in hindsight I may have been too quick to get defensive and not assess my own takes alongside the reality around me. As I said earlier, I’m not sure how people struggle so much to own their sh1t.

It’s the exact same thing I’ve seen this year with growing civil rights movements and people deciding the most important aspect of the debate is BUT THE STATUES or MCWB remarks.

I like Callis. I've never met the guy and don't know him, but I like him despite him blowing a vape over me once when walking across the Cobbold Stand car park after a game.

But I like him because he's passionate about what he believes in, his intentions seem good and he stands for something.

If I'm speaking candidly I think the issue sometimes is that passion isn't always put across in quite the right way, but I do believe he means well. Maybe the passion boils over. I don't think anyone is offering any 'hot takes' here in 2020 to claim that the level of global meat consumption is unsustainable, that we're goverened by nobs and that Amazon isn't an organisation with the greatest social conscience. So the whole 'I told you so' is a little bizarre, and not endearing.

The way I see it, is if you genuinely want to be a force for change and inspire others, it feels counter productive to meet change with such resistance. If someone shows signs of willing and openness, to respond with 'you weren't saying that last year' doesn't seem like the retort of someone who genuinely wants change, rather that of someone who just wants to be seen as a rebel and needs a cause to associate themselves with. Openness should be encouraged, celebrated even.

As I said, I think he's a good egg and tends to get more than his fair share of unfair resistance on here, while not helping himself at times. That would be my view.

My point was more to read it, see what posters (many of which are regarded as “informed” on here) were saying and ask if they’d still say those things in 2020.

I don’t think someone sticking vegan awareness stickers on meat these days would be met with such hostility. Many of the takes are just outright abusive nonsense or factually incorrect off the back of pro-farming studies.

I’m sure most people in that thread arguing against the sentiment will cringe at their takes in that thread. Me? I still stand in the same shoes in terms of my world view.

Again, it’s not so much me “chilling out” but actually the fact I don’t have to shout over constant attacks and ignorance.

Fair enough.

My opinion actually hasn't changed much either. If anything i've moved further towards plant based because of preference rather than animal rights. I watch cookery programmes where they use the whole animal and frankly it just puts me off. The flesh of an animal just doesn't look as appetising as an apple.
