Badger posted something on my behalf this year during a heated pile on and didn’t get any grief.

I know the Ballotelli vest has been mentioned already but plenty of posters here have noted a reaction to a post is often different based on the username next to it.

I would propose people revisit their views or posts rather than insist the whole debate is now more positive through anything but attitude shifts.

Speaking of TWTD vegans, where is Tampa these days?!

I fully recommend everyone revisiting this thread for a reality check. I forgot just how much hostility was in there.

The opening post was about vegans putting stickers on meat and trying to block people from buying their foods. It’s a personal choice. You choose to be vegan. Many others choose to eat meat. The issue at the start of that thread was that vegans were attempting to hijack people’s right to eat meat. And that’s what it is. It’s not illegal.

As for you claiming last night that you haven’t changed.. this is an example of the posts you were doing weekly. Many many posters, including those who’ve said in this thread that they agree with stuff you say but not your occasional method such as Clive_Baker... even he said to give it a rest here. -74 down arrows tells the story on how oftenyou must’ve been doing these threads to antagonise and annoy people. So yes Callis.. you have changed. And for the better.

The first page of that thread is utter hatred though, so surely you can see why I might have came in very dismissive and with my back up? The thread is a cesspit and yeah I contributed to that, but the whole reinvention of TWTD history to deflect all that onto me is complete BS.

I think someone would have to be living in opposite land to say otherwise!

I do see your point.

I think the debate has also been broadened now with respected posters like Newcy taking an interest. It helps calm things down.

Can I just say I'm not sure why Callis upsets people, and never have been. I don't find his posting aggressive, and he certainly doesn't put me off veganism. I just think he's passionate about something he believes in.

Yep, have always felt the cr*p he gets thrown at him far out weighs what is genuinely deserved. Passionate about topics which sometimes crosses a line maybe, but the nonsense that is often aimed his way is ridiculous and often uncalled for.

I had to post those things due to constant attacks, go read that thread I've linked and read some of your takes on veganism 3 years ago. If anyone's mellowed out it's you. I mean, your takes are still poorly informed and ignorant but some of what you used to post you'd get slaughtered on here now too.

Also looking at the Lucan and Stokie posts, and people wonder why I used to stand my ground on how the wider board saw them as reasonable/informed when hindsight says otherwise. Not to drag names up and not that I want/expect it as I really don't care that much, but sometimes I wonder if apologies could go a long way in my views of some on here.

Those 74 down arrows were mostly from one poster BTW, don't lie about things to shape a point.

I think it was more in response to announcing a departure from the board, rather than the cause. It's all about how things are delivered, relentless posts on anything aren't great are they? Not many people disagree with Fishy about Lambert, but to see 10 threads a day on it that ALL end up in the same place is a bit counter productive.

You do have to question why Callis still gets so much abuse though, as he's definitely mellowed lately yet people continue to play to poster rather than the post, surely?

I wasn’t lying. I saw -74 and assumed they were -74 arrows. Even if you take Gavs arrows away, it’s still -17 which ain’t great for your point.

My tales are ignorant in no way? I want to eat meat. It’s legal. So I do. That’s about it. Just because 2% of the population think that is wrong, doesn’t meat it is. And if it is wrong, I’m ok with that too. It’s still legal and it’s still socially acceptable. I take responsibility for my actions and I’m happy to continue doing so.

I think your chances of getting an apology are slim to none. You brought on 90% of the stick yourself. I’ll ask you one final question but then I’ll leave this thread alone as nobody wants it at the top of the board ruining the atmosphere... why does Herbivore not have arguments on the subject on here but you do? You both have the same ‘hot take’ but yet he’s able to be civil and have a genuine discussion. You never used to be able to do that without kicking off and throwing your toys out the pram. The fact it’s no longer massive arguments on veganism... is actually because you have mellowed a bit in how you get your points across but you haven’t realised. It’s a positive thing.

I’ll leave you to it now for the sake of the rest of the forum. Good luck with it.

Not sure why you are singling me out, there are numerous posters on those threads saying exactly the same things as me. I still feel you were (less so now) far to aggressive in your posting and that is what caused the majority of the issues. You do still talk in a very condescending way to anyone who doesn't agree with your entire world view but you do also make some very valid points that we should all take on board and consider.

I do think in hindsight you made some valid points about veganism and I do think that many people are more open to those points nowadays. I certainly eat a lot more veg than I did previously however I am not a vegan and that is a choice. I don't really need to be told my perceptions are all messed up on a weekly basis. You should be content and pleased that you have managed to get people to consider their choices.

I also posted the other day that in hindsight you were correct in the early stages of the pandemic although I still feel you went very early and the evidence being presented at the time didn't fully support what you said. You have been shown to be mostly correct though with regards to the governments response. I don't know if you saw that post as the whole thread was deleted but it would be a shame if you didn't as it was an attempt to end hostilities.

I have no interest in maintaining historic grievances and have done my best not to perpetuate them, thus I was slightly disappointed in you calling me out yet again in this thread.

I still do rubbish that. Are you telling me if meat vanished from society tomorrow you’d be ill? You can get all the stuff you need from plants and boost with supplements if needed. And meat eaters have just as bad deficiencies in their diet too.

Much pro animal product research that still haunts our health space was commissioned and paid for by those who profit from selling animal products.

We’re not even half a century out of having doctors advice smoking for stress or companies that push high sugar content products deflecting health dangers onto other areas like fat consuption.

Corporate lobbying rules the world.

No I cannot, stop judging me on zero knowledge or information on my medical history. I didn't want to go into details as I'm sure the board will find them pretty boring but as it seems to only way to shut up your insensitive, arrogant & ignorant comments -

I have ulcerative colitis which is triggered by hundreds of different foods and the way they are cooked, the range of what I can eat is therefore *extremely* limited, so I *have* to eat from the entire range that I can tolerate - even doing that I have malnutrition in some ways. Even when in remission my gut is unable to absorb nutrients from food adequately, far less so from supplements. My vit D3 level was down to less than 40% of what it should have been in Sept 18, after a sunny summer spent mostly outside - I now eat eggs, which helps.

Certainly we are all guilty of posting in a heavy handed way at times and I am as guilty as anyone else.

My opinions on the matter have certainly evolved over the last 3 years and it's all water under the bridge as far as I am concerned and hopefully it'll all be good going forward.

I kicked off but I've mellowed out. Okay?

The point I'm making, is you are trying to pin the fact I may have had many valid points at a time when those views were less widely accepted is purely on a perceived negative involvement, and not a general progressive change in world. That ew shows a level of ignorance in your own opinion which translates into projection.

You need to stop scapegoating me as I find it insulting. The reason there wouldn't be a 46 page row about how sh1t vegans are, particularly one I didn't even instigate (see above thread I posted), is because spouting such nonsense would get you pelters here now.

Maybe Romford has mellowed and matured too. I certainly see him posting hardly any eyebrow raising hot takes these days himself.

Maybe the moral of the story is that everyone (other than me!) has grown, some have grown to appreciate different perspectives and others have grown to frame their points in a manner more conducive to fruitful discussion.

I've had plenty of doctors and PT's spout nonsense about my diet, even as recent as this year. Even though Ryorry has personal experience neither of us are experts in diets and biology. But evidently as the medical industry can't get a coherent take on such matters suggests it's not as straight forward as implied.

I do find it odd people will argue to the hills with DK or Banks making these points in a more heated defence, yet when I post legit questions seeking evidence of claims or ask why the whole debate is framed around one party rather than the whole political system and society, is completely ignored.

I have found the recent tack to 'there are no antisemites on here just people as bad as antisemites' a particularly weasel mouthed trend...interestingly some of the old boy prefect types on here are more than happy to let it slide!

It was more a lazy point around the fact that people who flag about animal cruelty in China in relation to tradition/profit act like we have a sparkling animal welfare track record here. We don’t. There is much evidence of what goes on behind the doors of animal farming and the post I was replying to was from someone who has denied such things over and over.

Granted I could have done a longer and more explanatory post, but the poster in question always ends up saying they don’t care despite the fact they evidently do find the cognitive dissonance bothersome or they wouldn’t still contribute to such discussion topics defending their position.

I really don’t get how people can’t make the connection that perhaps we should apply the compassion we show animals our western tradition has shaped as pets to the ones we see as food. It’s not a radical or “out there” concept, never really was full stop. And the difference now vs 4 years ago from my experience of having these discussions with people considerably more than many posters on here in various aspects of my life is a shift in social consciousness towards our relationship with animal products.

If someone said “BLM annoy me in the way they make their points and it makes me want to be racist” or “XR’s messaging is preachy so I’m going to pollute more” they’d rightly be called an idiot (and they have been on here recently, RIP Hamster). I don’t see the difference in logic.

Not agreeing with how someone makes their point doesn’t invalidate the facts behind it.

"I really don’t get how people can’t make the connection that perhaps we should apply the compassion we show animals our western tradition has shaped as pets to the ones we see as food".

That's a false argument - I'm a meat eater who does have that compassion & make the connection, hence I only buy organic or wild animal meat (e.g. venison that would have had to be culled anyway). I'm sure the same applies to many other people (I know it does to J2). And without re-running the whole of the old argument, a reminder that we don't have pigs, cows, sheep or chickens living in our houses, accompanying us on walks, or going on holiday with us.

I really don't get how you forget that human beings are animals who deserve compassion too, btw.

Our current UK animal welfare standards aren't perfect I agree, but they're pretty sparkling by comparison with many other countries, incl China.

It’s been a long old year for everyone. Hopefully things, at least here anyway, are on the up now but I dare say that too loudly in case something else comes along to kick me back down. Time will tell but I’m in a good state of mind at the moment so that’s half the battle. Unis going well still. Crazy to think in a few month time.. I’ll be a fully qualified sports coach able to coach in a school or at a sports club or whatever other possible path I end up on. Nice to feel I’m achieving something.

Know this isn’t in the footy thread but I’ve come to the decision we’re gonna finish in the playoffs this year. I don’t think we’re good enough for top 2 but I think we’re still solid enough for a playoff place. Very much doubt we will go up in the playoffs though and at that point, if he hadn’t been already, Lambert should be sacked at the full time whistle. Feels like a big year for the club. Can’t be having another year in this poxy league.

Poll: Would you take a draw tonight if offered right now?
