Thanks to all of you that have been kind, fun and engaging. I really do wish you all the very best for you and your families and those close to you in these uncertain times.

Take care

"I really don’t get how people can’t make the connection that perhaps we should apply the compassion we show animals our western tradition has shaped as pets to the ones we see as food".

That's a false argument - I'm a meat eater who does have that compassion & make the connection, hence I only buy organic or wild animal meat (e.g. venison that would have had to be culled anyway). I'm sure the same applies to many other people (I know it does to J2). And without re-running the whole of the old argument, a reminder that we don't have pigs, cows, sheep or chickens living in our houses, accompanying us on walks, or going on holiday with us.

I really don't get how you forget that human beings are animals who deserve compassion too, btw.

Our current UK animal welfare standards aren't perfect I agree, but they're pretty sparkling by comparison with many other countries, incl China.

Not strictly true, I took a cow on a few very expensive holidays which the c*** still owes me money for.

Some people grasp the fact that a statement like "I'm a meat eater who does have that compassion & make the connection, hence I only buy organic or wild animal meat" is fundamentally flawed in cognitive dissonance though. Once that is accepted, it becomes much easier to understand my points.

Then again I've always aimed to live my life as "all-in" as I can, but within a system designed to set us up to fail in ethical choices to survive.

Anyone who's seen The Good Place (spoilers if not coming) will remember the revelation no one has gone to heaven in 500 years as an ethical choice on the face of it has so many global negative repercussions the points gained are outweighed by the points lost. That moment was DEEP for me as it's an honest reflection of the world IMO.

Maybe Romford has mellowed and matured too. I certainly see him posting hardly any eyebrow raising hot takes these days himself.

Maybe the moral of the story is that everyone (other than me!) has grown, some have grown to appreciate different perspectives and others have grown to frame their points in a manner more conducive to fruitful discussion.

I certainly have. It’s a good thing. Whether he believe it or not, when I said a fair few pages back he was less argumentative now and had chilled out, I meant it in a nice way.

Everyone has their sh*t. I shouldn’t really be on here arguing. None of us should be. If there’s one thing I can definitely say I’ve learnt this year it’s that life has its big ups and big downs but the whole thing is too short to dwell on the big downs.

So I hereby end any long-running disputes I have with any posters on here from this moment forth. Including Callis.

The opening post was about vegans putting stickers on meat and trying to block people from buying their foods. It’s a personal choice. You choose to be vegan. Many others choose to eat meat. The issue at the start of that thread was that vegans were attempting to hijack people’s right to eat meat. And that’s what it is. It’s not illegal.

As for you claiming last night that you haven’t changed.. this is an example of the posts you were doing weekly. Many many posters, including those who’ve said in this thread that they agree with stuff you say but not your occasional method such as Clive_Baker... even he said to give it a rest here. -74 down arrows tells the story on how oftenyou must’ve been doing these threads to antagonise and annoy people. So yes Callis.. you have changed. And for the better.

Eeeee Rommers lad when I were your age I used to fill trolleys with South African food take it to the check out and when they asked for payment walk off. Was I hijacking people's right to support apartheid? Maybe I was but this is all part of how we instigate change and get people to be more conscious of their choices.

I’m alright thanks mate. Trust all is well your end?

It’s been a long old year for everyone. Hopefully things, at least here anyway, are on the up now but I dare say that too loudly in case something else comes along to kick me back down. Time will tell but I’m in a good state of mind at the moment so that’s half the battle. Unis going well still. Crazy to think in a few month time.. I’ll be a fully qualified sports coach able to coach in a school or at a sports club or whatever other possible path I end up on. Nice to feel I’m achieving something.

Know this isn’t in the footy thread but I’ve come to the decision we’re gonna finish in the playoffs this year. I don’t think we’re good enough for top 2 but I think we’re still solid enough for a playoff place. Very much doubt we will go up in the playoffs though and at that point, if he hadn’t been already, Lambert should be sacked at the full time whistle. Feels like a big year for the club. Can’t be having another year in this poxy league.

Good man, glad to hear it.

Covid has been a bastard in many respects for you by way of timing / coinciding with your final year, but look at the positive that hopefully we'll see the back of it before too long and therefore won't impact your employment prospects as much as it might have next year. Hopefully you land a great gig.

I think that's a fair assumption on Town. Top 6 and lose to a Charlton or something in the P/O's sounds about right.

I'm good thanks buh, hanging in there.

Sorry but I don't believe for one second you can only get what you need in your diet from animal products nor that there aren't enough alternatives for you to eat.

FFS It's bad enough have to live with the misery of a sh1t, totally isolating illness (because everything social is based around food, but you wouldn't notice that wrapped up as you are in your obsessive blinkered state, completely unable to walk even 1 metre in someone else's shoes) - without some ignorant, arrogant little * calling me a liar.

"Are you telling me if meat vanished from society tomorrow you’d be ill?"

Yes I would be, extremely (I include eggs in that)

"You can get all the stuff you need from plants and boost with supplements if needed".

No I cannot, stop judging me on zero knowledge or information on my medical history. I didn't want to go into details as I'm sure the board will find them pretty boring but as it seems to only way to shut up your insensitive, arrogant & ignorant comments -

I have ulcerative colitis which is triggered by hundreds of different foods and the way they are cooked, the range of what I can eat is therefore *extremely* limited, so I *have* to eat from the entire range that I can tolerate - even doing that I have malnutrition in some ways. Even when in remission my gut is unable to absorb nutrients from food adequately, far less so from supplements. My vit D3 level was down to less than 40% of what it should have been in Sept 18, after a sunny summer spent mostly outside - I now eat eggs, which helps.

I'm a bit confused. You say eggs would make you extremely ill near the start, then at the end you say you now eat eggs, which helps.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Well done for making some poor sap on a paltry wage have to go restock the shelves.

Should have just hijacked the delivery lorries on their way to the supermarket and driven them into the river

Not a loaded question. Ignore it if you want. I only ask because i've seen a large range of answers on this from vegans. Everything from fair enough to sacrifice your own health for the animals.

"If"??

Of course I'm right, I've lived with the bloody condition for 30 years and spent a large chunk of that time seeking alternatives.

To have anyone questioning that is just rubbing salt into having a condition that's already unpleasant & difficult enough to live with.

If was purely to skip the response of 'I don't believe it'.

I believe you entirely and believe you know your body better than we do. I remember in the past you have had to think carefully about things as minor (to most people) as which plant milk you can tolerate so I fully sympathise.

Probably confusing due to my poor writing - no, eggs have never made me ill, I was trying to include them in mony's comment "if you never ate meat again" -

I.e. what I meant was that if I never ate meat or eggs again I'd be iller than I need be.

i mean, you could always talk to an experienced vegan about your diet needs and get recommendations if animal rights are important to you.

The first page of that thread is utter hatred though, so surely you can see why I might have came in very dismissive and with my back up? The thread is a cesspit and yeah I contributed to that, but the whole reinvention of TWTD history to deflect all that onto me is complete BS.

I think someone would have to be living in opposite land to say otherwise!

“ The first page of that thread is utter hatred though”

As the OP of the thread, you’ll see my intention of it was to discuss ethical sourcing of meat.
