.....over recent months it's turned into a very different place, not a particularly nice place sometimes.
There's always been "ribbing" of people on here, it's part of the charm, but only rarely did it ever get too personally offensive.
Lately it's turning into a platform for personal crusades and the constant aggressive dismissal of anyone with a different view.
Nobody should feel that they can't post on here through fear of getting abused, whether you are black, white, green, a meat eater, a veggie, a hipster, gay, straight, Jewish, Muslim, martian, Lambert inner or of any other persuasion.
Take some time out, but come back.
Keno's still here and while he's here there is always a little bit of joy around the place.

Having sent a PM asking for some meat on the bone regarding why he felt the need to leave and not having had a reply and as the account has no gone I am going to put it out there that I do not remember Solomon ever contributing much to the antisemitism debate beyond emotive one liners with no recourse to evidence. A perfect example of this would be in the unsubstantiated response he made to Jeera regarding antisemitism being tolerated on here.
If he had genuine concerns you might think he would wish to quietly address and hopefully resolve them via PM's.

For my part I can assure you that I have no truck with racists or racism but reserve my right to point out when the scale of an issue is being exaggerated for political ends. If I have directly offended you I would want to know when and why?

I hope that you choose to just take a break rather than leave the board permanently. It’s what I do when I feel somebody or something is out order/personally difficult. I come back to it because whilst I genuinely disagree with a lot of people on here about many things the overwhelming majority are decent people who I’d happily argue with over a beer if I ever met them. This is a sensitive issue and I’m aware of that. I’ve got a couple of very good Jewish friends who despite not buying into the whole New Antisemitism propaganda (they know exactly who’s driving that hardest), have been very clear about how this can be perceived at a deeper level than I can ever realise. They don’t have an answer but they also understand that it’s not good to ignore it either.
So it’s a quandary, especially when put against the equally difficult situation faced by the Palestinians. I will always try to be respectful and understanding but equally I’m not going to wave through an oppressive regime because of people’s feelings.
And aside from the Israeli-Palestine conflict that drives all this, there’s clearly no excuse for anti-Jewish hate because that has literally nothing to do with it. Anyone who’s using one of these to justify the other needs to be removed from the discussion, by force if necessary.
So I can certainly respect Solomon’s sincere engagement and feelings. But he also made accusations that were untrue and unfair.
I’d welcome him back if he wants to talk more but there needs to be some attempt to respect the truth and not make statements for effect. I just don’t see how that helps reduce racism and injustice across the board. |  |
