Decided this place is not for me. on 18:53 - Nov 19 by GlasgowBlue | Disappointed but understand your position. Been there myself on two occasions. The last time being when a poster said I got a "massive hard on from antisemitism" despite being aware of my family connections. That poster continues to be an active member of the board. Stay safe Solomon. |
Bang out of order that, as we all know your hard on isn’t massive. *runs away*

You should see some of the other fan sites knocking around (and I’m sure you have). We’re all a bunch of pansies by comparison. Or to put it another way BCWYWF! Although the constant calling out of Paz is unfair imo, even if he has some dodgy views.

Decided this place is not for me. on 23:05 - Nov 19 with 1748 views | monytowbray | Shame to see you go Solomon, although I must say I would have preferred you discussed the avatar thing with me and replied to my posts. I still think that criticism was highly distorted from context and intent. I’ve been here a decade and my intentions are rarely (if ever) not transparent, even if I go arse over tit explaining at times and a handful of posters like to put words in my mouth. I don’t understand where the idea anti Semitism is happening here has came from. There are very heated debates on the subject within topical political framing but I haven’t see anyone post these things. Of course, if they are in existence here - be it outright, subtle or systematic and I’ve missed them - I’m happy to have them pointed out, explained in context and listen. I will say I agree slightly with some criticism you are guilty of soundbites. I have tried to engage with both you and Bloom on the topic and the responses have been non-existent. Yes, I think regurgitating old arguments whenever a poster posts is unnecessary.

Not sure that’s a TWTD problem per se. I think this a good forum and format for better discussions even though it can boil over. Think the underlying temperature in the world and in politics is pretty f&cking high anyway, and even before Covid. There are a lot more unanswered questions out there nowadays.

Absolutely this. I don’t post often but read the forum a lot. One of the reasons I don’t post is due to the general tone and nature of the board. A big part of this is this ‘Spruce’ character and his obsession with ‘Paz’ is really quite unpleasant, regardless of the reasons behind it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I think there is an issue there though Phil. Many will wade in on threads where their past posts that totally contradict their input have not been owned, addressed or apologised for. TWTD has a bit of a habit of progressing over time with societal norms/views yet when the chickens come home to roost the history of those posts is distorted to hide past flaws. A good example I raised this week was TWTD and veganism. My views and posts on the subject remain the same, yet I’m continually told I’ve “chilled out” or the way I made my points back then were unfair. It’s pure projection to make people feel better and not own it. I don’t take myself that seriously but I do find it insulting. And it’s far from exclusive to me alone and veganism as a topic, before someone says LOOK AT ME. No one who says/does things they later change their stance on looks back at their old views as enlightened, so call it what it is. But that, to me, is why old scores always come back - they need to be settled or they never die off. [Post edited 19 Nov 2020 23:14]

It's only regurgitated because he spends his days lecturing various posters (not just myself) that they're bullies, that they're rude, that he wants to see civility on the forum, all the time never extending that courtesy to others. How does his stance of showing civility to all sit with him also being fine with racist and homophobic jokes? How does it relate to him blaming migrants for the deaths of their children, or saying that there's a conspiracy behind Covid knowing full well some of his fellow posters have suffered because of it? That bothers me, but if other posters are fine with it then I'll shut up about it and judge them silently instead!

You're entitled to your opinion. Like I said, some folks have a higher tolerance for racism and homophobia than others. From your posting history I'm not surprised people weren't in agreement with you that taking the knee at sporting events had gone on too long. I wouldn't let that put you off from posting though. Hmm did I not just quote Les Ferdinand on that thread and simply point out there were two sides of the debate. I do not think I actually expressed an opinion. But let’s not let facts get in the way of a character assassination. You know nothing about my views, what I do for a job, what I contribute towards the community, so don’t start waving that racist or homophobe card at me with no justification. And thank you for confirming I am entitled to my opinion. I am in your debt. [Post edited 19 Nov 2020 23:26]

I really hate the 'calling out' of posters as I've said a few times in the past. Bit different with trolls though, and if you read Paz's post history over the past few months, it's clear that he is a troll - more subtle than the usual ones granted - but it's his choice to continue trolling - not surprisingly, some people who are on here a lot get irritated.

Could it not be that you, in fact, have ‘chilled out’ though? Because you have. You’re less shouty in your argument which engages more people to listen. At one point mid vegan thread once on here you literally had your missus posting for you telling everyone why you were right and the rest of us were wrong by eating meat. I’m sure I’m not the only one who remembers that. So by you not doing that anymore.. it’s a good example of you ‘chilling out’ a bit.

Another unnecessarily aggressive post that relies on strawmanning and making stuff up to get a point across. Yet again it's coming from a poster complaining about rudeness and intolerance on the forum. It's really boring at this point. I think you're pulling my plonker so as a result it's the ignore list for you. Good day to you sir.

It’s hard not to be shouty when the attacks are coming in from all sides - many of them f@cking stupid. Callis is right. The tone has completely changed as society itself has become much more informed and engaged.

Speaking more generally rather than regarding any specific poster, if someone posts something which requires challenging, then it should be challenged but I don't think there's any need to keep returning to the issue in every thread they're involved in.
