The glee at which some people.... on 23:34 - Nov 19 by PhilTWTD | Speaking more generally rather than regarding any specific poster, if someone posts something which requires challenging, then it should be challenged but I don't think there's any need to keep returning to the issue in every thread they're involved in. |
I agree. And I only return to it whenever hypocrisy needs pointing out. It's not my fault that it needs pointing out every day.

The glee at which some people.... on 23:28 - Nov 19 by The_Romford_Blue | Could it not be that you, in fact, have ‘chilled out’ though? Because you have. You’re less shouty in your argument which engages more people to listen. At one point mid vegan thread once on here you literally had your missus posting for you telling everyone why you were right and the rest of us were wrong by eating meat. I’m sure I’m not the only one who remembers that. So by you not doing that anymore.. it’s a good example of you ‘chilling out’ a bit. |
But I was right, because everyone has actually slowed down to look at their own place in the scheme of the environment and living beings. And because of that people are more acceptable of those views. Having someone else who was on that curve earlier, be it my then partner or posters like Eire/Lagos/Dolly, doesn’t change that. I’ve not chilled in the slightest, i got kicked off her for the first time in a decade a few months back.

The glee at which some people.... on 23:34 - Nov 19 by Darth_Koont | It’s hard not to be shouty when the attacks are coming in from all sides - many of them f@cking stupid. Callis is right. The tone has completely changed as society itself has become much more informed and engaged. |
I’m specifically talking about veganism threads from Callis here. Wouldn’t know about the rest.

The glee at which some people.... on 23:32 - Nov 19 by reusersfreekicks | I thought that too. Completely disagree with him on most subjects but the way he's pursued dogmatically is unnecessary imo |
It's really not. He's either a troll or a nasty bit of work. But fine, I'll leave him be and just laugh to myself when I see him cry about being abused by anyone and everyone while simultaneously punching down on people who have it hard enough as it is.

So am I. The tone has completely changed. It’s gone from a war (on both sides) to swapping tips about the best vegan butter. Because society has moved closer to Callis’s position and it’s easier for him to engage with people in good faith.

It’s not a bad thing. It’s actually a positive thing that you’re now getting your message and argument across much better* rather than winding people up. The fact you even say more people are looking at what they eat now rather than years ago surely suggests this method is working better? Whereas before the way your threads were, if anything you were driving people TOWARDS eating meat because you were so full on with it. I prefer these days. Hence clicking on that thread the other day and the 7 pages being civil from everyone throughout. It was an interesting discussion of alternative views rather than just the TWTD vegan v meat eater argument of 2015 that would be a ten pager 20 times a year. *Thats generally not meant to sound as patronising as that reads.

I think his tone being what it is in those thread is of far more significance. It’s a civil discussion now rather than a guaranteed argument as it used to be.

Decided this place is not for me. on 19:15 - Nov 19 by PhilTWTD | I had spent time looking for it as I wasn't aware the post had been deleted and I don't recall seeing it reported. Certainly something which I would have removed if I'd seen it and the user concerned made well aware that it wasn't acceptable. |
Yeah I saw that too, it was mid-September. I remember being pretty angry about that.

The thing is that everyone has to take responsibility for their own opinions and the way they express them. Ultimately, callis was where society headed and needed to head. If people had really taken responsibility for their opinions at the time then there wouldn’t have been a fight at all. Can you imagine the same fight now? Course not. And that’s what makes it ridiculous.

This forum should be for everyone..... on 19:43 - Nov 19 by Bloots | .....over recent months it's turned into a very different place, not a particularly nice place sometimes. There's always been "ribbing" of people on here, it's part of the charm, but only rarely did it ever get too personally offensive. Lately it's turning into a platform for personal crusades and the constant aggressive dismissal of anyone with a different view. Nobody should feel that they can't post on here through fear of getting abused, whether you are black, white, green, a meat eater, a veggie, a hipster, gay, straight, Jewish, Muslim, martian, Lambert inner or of any other persuasion. Take some time out, but come back. Keno's still here and while he's here there is always a little bit of joy around the place. Lambert out. |
oh give it a rest you black, white, green, a meat eater, a veggie, a hipster, gay, straight, Jewish, Muslim, martian, Lambert inner

I'd say both - the tone has changed because Callis/monytowbray has stopped unnecessarily upsetting people with his deliberate shock tactics which just alienated many - *and* because society has moved on, with more people becoming more aware of the issue because environmental issues becoming more prominent due to the clock ticking on climate change. Plus awareness raised by the pandemic of course.

What do you mean ‘take responsibility for their opinions’. Most people at the time said they ate meat. Most of the exact same people now.. would still eat meat. The change in various is Callis’ tactics to spread his veganism message. Edit - Ultimately.. it doesn’t bother me either way. Over the years I’ve got much better at ignoring threads so if it went back to how it used to be on those threads, I’d just ignore it. Was just AJ observation that they’re much more civilised which is clearly a good thing. I’m not the only one who’s said the same in the last few days about the vegan threads. Me, Ryorry, J2, Bloots and one of Swansea or Ulla (I get the pictures confused so forget who it was) have all said on this thread or the vegan thread that the threads themselves are much better these days - with far less arguments. Saying over and over my argument has changed doesn’t make it true. I still stand by the same points, the difference is the threads no longer descend into the ignorant and ill informed madness that polarised them to the more extreme side of making my point clear.

I said at the time I wasn’t going to watch a cow being slaughtered. Why would I wish to. I haven’t watched it since and nor would I in future. What am I projecting exactly?
