I don't think it was ever purely a 'results business' though.
Think about it, professional football wouldn't exist if it wasn't for fans, and fans wouldn't watch football in the first place if it wasn't entertaining. For that reason I think there's an obligation for professional teams to at least try to play half-decent football. I have very little time for managers such as Pulis and Allardyce, to set up to play direct, pragmatic football in my mind is almost disrespecting fans who have paid their money and are ultimately the reason said managers have jobs.
