You would be happy to see Paul Hurst back then? Also I would add the dull dreary style of MM, when I sat bored watching games and struggled to celebrate a goal when we scored. Yes we would have been in the championship but not sure how long I would have continued my ST if he had stayed much longer. The answer is not getting rid of Paul Lambert, that would be very expensive and hit the playing budget hard.

I wouldn't want Paul Hurst back, but also, no, he wouldn't particularly be a downgrade on Lambert.

We've no idea what effect dismissing Lambert would have on our budget beyond rumours and hearsay. If it's significant then Evans is a bigger fool that I had imagined. In any case, at some point we will have to bite the bullet. He's clearly not going to last the duration of his current contract.

Burley was great but a long time ago. Dier unproven. Can’t see it happening and wouldn’t want it. Only way up is Evans selling.

Barring Mick, pretty much all of our 'proven' managers that Evans has employed have been utter disasters, I can't see what harm Dyer(with experienced backing) could do that would be worse than that wreaked by Lambert and Hurst.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Paul Cook feels like just another cab of the rank, he’s done a great job at Wigan abs sure he’s be fine but is he really the man to take us as far as we want to go as a club?

I’d like to take a chance on someone with potentially a higher ceiling, someone who could manage in the Premier League one day, who has something a bit different about them.

Cook won L2 title with Chesterfield, then took Chesterfield to L1 play-off next year. Then took Pompey to L2 title (I remember then coming here and looking good in FA Cup). Then took Wigan to L1 title. Then did a really good job last year with Wigan in the Championship (points deduction killed them).

Best candidate out there right now.

Paul Cook has a great record with virtually every club he's been at.

Out of managers that are attainable he is the best bet for me....much prefer him to Cowley

As much as I love both of these ITFC greats I just don’t see this as being the answer.

It would provide an initial boost in morale around the club which may lead to a few positive performances but ultimately I don’t think either would be well enough equipped right now to sustain it.

Burley’s been out of the game too long and in my opinion Dyer needs to cut his teeth elsewhere and at a lower level before taking a job like ITFC.

Under Lambert we are very average but I still think we have the potential to be better than that. But only if the change is made soon and someone comes in to inject some much needed belief.

In my opinion Dyer is not that man right now. When I say a lower level I mean somewhere other than here where can find his identity as a manager and make his mistakes. Too big a risk to take us on at the moment. Just feel it’s too big for a first time manager.

If he doesn't get a shot here now then he isn't ever getting one for me. I also think he may struggle to get a chance anywhere else given (rightly or wrongly) the reputation that precedes him as a player.

And he knows this crop of youngsters/the academy staff/the club generally inside out at a time when we need a manager that can coach the young players we have and build a side around them.

If the question is ‘how do you save the Amazonian rain forest’ then the answer is not to sack Lambert.

However, for pretty much every other question in the world....including how you get Town out of Division 3....then the answer is sack him as soon as possible whatever the cost.

The academy players probably give us that potential. Problem is we seem to too often have our best players on he treatment table.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I looked at an Ipswich side, saw the XI and said ‘that’s the best XI from our club, and certainly not over 10 games etc.

Every club has injuries, more so this year, but we’ve had them way before this freak season has come along.

Yep I'd take the Cowleys right now in a heartbeat as they say, just starting to get somewhere at Hudds it seemed to me, they weren't given the time though, no idea where this long ball tag came from with these two, they outplayed us at PR with passing and width didn't they? As just one example..

Passed it...They hoofed it to the pub bouncer up front who spent most of the game trying to elbow anybody that came within 5 yards of him. They then followed it up in the replay by kicking Lawrence off the park. Sorry that has tainted my views of them for good.

Dyer as first team coach with Butcher as mentor would be my choice.

Time isn’t on our side this really is a make or break season. Fail to gain promotion and with the wage cap in place we will barely recognize next season starting eleven.

Only issues is he may want to bring Craig Bellamy with him :-(

Hot take: '12 passes around the back then lump it', is not any kind of improvement on 'lump it'.

Personally, I'd take the hit on Lambert's compo and get rid, staying down will ultimately cost us more than keeping him on - we're 3rd mostly on the strength of our start right now. We were very nearly punished by Shrewsbury. Better teams than then *will* punish us.

Dyer is well liked but everyones exuberance towards him being a future manager comes from the heart. He has very little coaching experience to warrant the job. If he is prepared to further develop his coaching skills and remain on good terms with the club
then this could become more interesting down the line.

As for Burley he was a wonderful servant both player and manager. I still would believe he would do an amazing job for ITFC in managers role but he overlooks the fact that for all his success he was also largely responsible for the club failure to stay in the top flight and left us bankrupt.

This makes it a difficult path back.

Also, he has been out of football so long and the game is completely different.

What is this fascination with Butcher having a senior role int he first team coaching set up.

Great player, but absolute horror show as a coach/manager.

Burley has more credibility, and he has done nothing for 12 years.

I like the Dyer and Burley idea to reconnect to what the club actually is, and I think a past player should be the next move for us. I think Evans should do everything possible to go and get Tony Mowbray. Ticks every possible box for me (other than the likelihood one).

Sadly I think we would be below his level now.
