I'll say Fleetwood away October 19'. Long journey, and a proper sh*thole.

Can't think of any since then, I'm sure someone else might.

Thought it was just me who couldn’t think of a really important game. I realise it’s the definition of important but tonight’s pretty important

At the time I'm not sure it really qualified as being that important. It was early season and we didn't yet have the context of our inability to beat top 8 sides. It was just another game, albeit it a potentially tricky one.

I think by this thread everyone's judgement of 'important' is slightly differing.

I thought the OP meant in terms of where we are now as a club etc.

Think at the time Fleetwood had only lost 2 games in the league. That was the 11th game of the season so they were up there as well.

Felt important on the day, thought they were going to be a team finishing top 6 come the end of the season (which they did in the end).

I was basing that on where the club is right now (League 1 football club) etc, thought that was big game for us.

I guess it’s all about interpretation. As Swansea Blue states and I agree “all games matter “

For me they all matter of course but some are more important. In terms of where we are this season and where we hopefully plan to go , tonight is one of those that matters with importance

They had only lost twice in opening 10. Think they were 3rd at the time.

"we didn't yet have the context of our inability to beat top 8 sides" is slightly iorrelevant becuase on the day it was two top 4 sides playing, and they are always big games.

As it is tonight actually, it is still 1st v 3rd. If we win tonight, it will still be classed as a big match, big win feel, regardless of our general inability to beat top 8 sides.

It definitely felt a big win at the time. Not least because of Barton's antics before the game trying to put the pressure on. And we generally buckle at the first sign of pressure. I think a lot of people thought after that win that we were on the road to promotion.

I remeber Alex Mathie saying so on the drive home, think the words he 'doesn't think that many teams will be a serious test for Ipswich'.

In reflection, although no one believed it at the time (inc me), Barton's words were too true.

There were probably several afterwards, but I remember sitting back after the 2-0 home win against Middlesborough 14/15 and thinking we might really have a chance. It wasn't pretty, but we battled a very serious team off the park and were finally showing some real grit. We beat Brentford 2-4 a week later at their place and you really felt like we could take on anyone in the division.

We actually beat Hull in a really important game the last day of the season in 2006?? We won 1-0 but it still wasn’t enough to make the play-offs.

Rotherham at home in relegation season was a must win at the time and although we were embarrassingly hammered we scraped a win to prolong the pain.

But we are largely a hideously gutless bunch.

Not sure they are big games when the season is less than a quarter of the way through to be honest. The league table is still taking shape at that point. I don't really think it qualifies as an important game.

Fleetwood away last season was our only win of any note.
We didn't even manage to score a single goal at home in FIVE matches against the teams that finished in the top six.

In retrospect ...it's pretty poor really then isn't it

Oh well let's hope things change tonight

Underlying feeling is the obvious outcome but we live in hope....as ever !
